If i threw £2k at these...
...where would it get me? Performance-wise, ignoring brakes, suspension, driver training , etc....
Also, what would be those mods? Yep, i know nothing about these models and what they're capable of.
93/94 WRX RA
and
95/96 STi Type RA
Also, what then becomes the vunerable parts and reliability issues??

I was hoping to get them to about 320-350bhp. As to give similar performance to what i have now.
I didn't ask about suspension and brakes, but i know the route i would go for them. And yes, upgrade both.
So, decat, injectors, (possibly intercooler), pump and remap.
No turbo needed?
Can these models be remapped?

True, but a 4pot upgrade with good discs, pads, brake lines and master cylinder support really does sharpen things up. Plus this route is one hell of a lot cheaper than going for ap's.

Re-map is possible, but you'd need to do the ESL package.

If you're trying to do what I think you're trying to do then forget it. If you're trying to sell your car and get another car that does basically the same thing for a lot less money then forget it. I don't care how reliable they are, a 14 year old 4wd turbo is going to be trouble and that is before you start cranking it up to 350bhp and driving like you probably will with all those mods.
Waiting for abuse even though I'm right!

I'd be inclined to dissagree, depends how much you spend on buying the car, and if its been rebuilt by a reputable engine builder. I would sugest you buy one thats already been done as 2k up front on the purchase price is proberbly worth 5k of parts possibly more. there are lots of cars out there that have had thousands spent on them and as we all know you never get the true value of the mods back at sale time... And scoobies that have'nt been modded are as rare as rocking horse poo with diamond studs! most standard ones have been put back to standard to sell...

i've been lucky
my MY0 uk turbo 2000 had had some minor mods in the way of black skirts rear spats and anthracite wheels but no engine mods at all, i knew the previous owner who had it for 5 years and he always had it standard too!

even if you buy the best ra on the planet with the mods and power available for 2k your gearbox won't last, imho.i'd have the car around 300bhp/lb's and spend the rest on brakes, whiteline bits etc.as said before these cars are knocking on a bit and while they are way more hardcore than the newage sti's they won't be as reliable over 300bhp unless your going to spend a fortune and up grade everything.i may be wrong but i think a vf35 would be a nicer turbo on these, not so much for power but spool up etc.
i have mine a few months now,got the 300 bhp and plan to up grade the brakes next which are woe-full even around town.,scary in-fact.
a good sti ra with 300bhp set up well should be hard to beat by any motor up too 100 mph,any road.

So keep it around the 300bhp mark.
I wont be spending loadsa money on it, in fact wont be keeping it long, but would like (as much as i hate to admit to Blueblaster) to still keep something that has some go after the newage goes.

Rather than go down the same route of massive power why don't you look in the opposite direction? Find something with no weight and modest power and you'll have lots more fun. The obvious choice is a second hand Caterham which are virtually depreciation proof, always in demand and will have sane running costs. Or how about a 106 Rally? Worth a thought.

BB, i already worship that god almost everyday, in the form of a mapped Fabia vRS. Great little drive.
We're emmigrating, so the car has to go. So i'm selling up early and while the visa is being processed, i want something slightly above the norm to get some kicks. Like a mildly tuned RA. That's all.
I can't see me going around in 106 TBH. Nor the family.

The RA should fit the bill.
You will get the benefits BB mentions - no frills etc, but the RA will have a roof & four doors.
You will get a 13 - 14 year old car with little soundproofing, a whining gearbox & a poor interior for very little money.
Great cars.
