Hello from Oz
#1
How are you all, I found this site from one of the others I go to in Australia. Thought I might drop in considering I am looking at purchasing a 2001 WRX wagon in a couple of weeks. Might get some tips on what to look for and most of all, what to watch for. Any way, hope to chat to you guys and girlies soon, See Ya.

G'day m8.
How's Sydney going these days? Haven't been there for a year and a half. Are the MY01/02 rexes as popular as the old shaped ones were. Every man and his dog had one when I was there, is it still the case with the new ones?
What's the other site you go to in OZ? Is it a bbs?
Good luck with the purchase of your new W R EX.
Cheers,
Wrexy.

Hey another Aussie, good on ya mate!
About the new shape Rex, dunno about the southern states, but up here i don't see many of them getting around. That's part of the apeal of the new shape for me, the old shape are dime a dozen as stated by Wrexy.
I'm looking to buy too. I'm sitting here crunching numbers trying to stretch my budget and looking for more money somewhere. I'm toying with the idea of going down to the dealer now and making a deal.
Do you think the wife would be surprised if i bought home a brand new Rex without consulting her?
My powers of pursuasion are very strong, and i have fantastic diplomatic skills, i'm sure i could calm her down.
I've always believed, "It's easier to beg for forgiveness than to ask for permission", rule to live bye lads.

Hey Mrzoidburg
Do you remember a blue 99MY WRX being totalled on the Eumundi/Nambour crossroads last year. That was me when some plonker drove into me at 110kph as I was waiting to cross. Nice heli ride to hospital mind! :-)

Chopper,
Cool stuff!!! With the helli flying I mean. Have to agree, Queensland is beautiful.
I went in a hellicopter once. Part of my army training. Nothing like flying one though.
Mr Zoidburg,
thanks for the info about the popularity of the new rex.
Good luck with your purchase too.
I agree with your last paragraph. Go for it!!!
Cheers,
Wrexy.

Hi all!
Well i just did a bloody stupid thing (is what my wife will say) when she finds out i just bought a new MY02 WRX (finance pending). I just really went for another look (subconsciously wanting to be given the hard sell) and to see how much they'd give me trade for my beige 1981 Subaru Sports Wagon, 127,000kms original 2nd owner stock as a rock. It's even got the beige vinyl interior and skinny-*** 13" wheels!
So in the deal they ended up giving me $5,500 OZ!! I only paid bloody 4 grand for it!!
So i'm as happy as larry (finance pending ) even though i've got to work 1/2 saturdays for the next 2 1/2 years (no, i'm serious).
I drive 150km round trip to work each day through country roads and even a range crossing, working my saturdays is a sacrafice i'm easily prepared to make in order to pay for driving pleasure.
I'll keep you posted, i find out in a couple of ours.

Hey mate,
Welcome to the board.
Another Aussie ex-pat here, currently living in Edinburgh.
I've lived in Sydney all my life, and been a Holden V8 man for my entire driving life. Until I came to Scotland Nothing beats a rex for the scottish back roads
We are heading back to Oz in April, and plan on living up in Brisbane. Hard choice is if I should buy another rex or live my dream and buy an authentic L34 Torana. Maybe I'll just have to buy both
Andrew.

Hiya
Where in Sydney are you from? I'm from Southern suburbs - The Shire to be exact!! Don't own a scooby myself (am living in London so don't own a car at all) but a couple of Nottingham boys got me into them in a big way!!
Oh.... and yes..... I'm VERY homesick at the moment!

Andrew,
Those L34s are nice. Out of all the old Holdens it was and still is my favourite. I was a Ford man with an XA GT coupe, as I liked the early Fords. However from 1983 onwards, I prefer the Holdens and owned a 1988 HSV Group A Commodore (Walkinshaw) number 070.
If I were to go back to OZ I'd love to build a nice 10 second L34. I miss taking the Ford to the Creek for 1/4 mile runs. Did a 10.9. Had a 560hp clevo in it. But now I'd go the L34 route with a huge Chev, more reliable and more variety of parts for the engine. I had to rebuild the Ford 3 times. Too expensive.
The scoob could be your every day car and the L34 your weekend cruiser. L34s are very cheap now.
Hi Gym-queen.
