mate personally i would advise getting a STI as its quicker but there are loads of bargains about on uk models has to be said
ALL scoobys are gonna be a risk at over 70k miles im afraid,,,, depending on how its been treated

all depends on how the car has been treated.
could have a car with 50k thrashed/tracked miles or a granny owned 100k car that hasnt seen 3000rpm
ok a little extreme, but you get my drift.
example being my car... (i am considering selling it unfortunatley)
99 t-reg 140,000 miles... but
new gearbox 5k ago (wear and tear)
engine rebuild at 70k (oil pump failure not thrashing etc)
new suspension last year.
can you see my point. a car like mine with all the above replaced and other bits too (not so major parts), can run as smoothly as say its 70-80,000 equivalent.
just my 2p worth.

I would second getting the insurance quotes first, unless you are older or have plenty of no claims, the difference can be a lot ( for me it was £1200 for a UK car, or £3300 !!! for an Sti - mainly because of it being an import as well as a couple of groups higher ).
If the car is on 98K check when the cambelts were done as they need changing at 45K and 90K, but may have been done before this. If they havent been done since the service at 45K walk away unless its very cheap as it would point to a car that hasnt been well maintained.
Also, with the mileage due to hit 100K first I would be looking at getting it pretty cheap anyway as once it goes over that it seems to be a big block to reselling it in the future as people generally dont want Imprezas with over 100K on the clock unless they are dirt cheap.
The problem with high mileage cars ( even if they have had new engines, gearboxes etc... ) is that there are plenty of low or average mileage Imprezas about, so people wont go for the high mileage ones simply because they dont need to.
