LICHFIELD IMPORT

Hi all, as a newbie I am after some advice.
I have just looked at a wrx sti - 2006.
The dealer informed me it was a lichfield import, but it is advertised as a UK type?
He said it is classed as a parallel import and comes from belguim.
Will I have issues insuring, servicing getting parts etc?
Any advice or info will be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks
Ross

ring a main dealer to see what they say.
failing that just go to a specialist subaru servicer and then ask them.
Only yesterday I was told the warranty on an EU import is only the same as a second hand car warranty you can buy so a lot of stuff wouldn't be covered by IM.
best to ring round and check.

Your warranty is the same, you should contact Subaru and register the car with them, they will send you a letter saying it's covered.
You don't get Subaru Assist though, or a tracker and alarm fitted as standard so you might want to make sure you have them as to not invalidate your insurance.
Oh and you'll probably get snotty treatment from Subaru dealers, and the odd "I'm not sure your covered, it's an import you see, we'll have to check with Subaru..." But it's all theater to make you feel worried...
It seems it's ok for companies to be a little cheeky and advertise these cars as uk models, when they are 'uk spec' and not 'type uk'...As I found out also last year from dirty dirty Motorpoint (never again).

The warranty is the same as a U.K car (except no recovery).
U.K dealers do pull there faces simply because they cannot compete with the value for money you get out of a parellel import.
Trust me IMHO there are no financial benefits to buying U.K

LOL you are both correct - Euro import Subaru's get the full three year warrenty where as Euro import VW's / Audis only get 2 years manufactor warrenty - the last year of UK bought VAG cars is covered by the UK importer - or so I'm told !

Hang on, I was led to believe the warranties are different! the first being on permission granted from the country of origin before any warranty work being carried out, this was after being registered, thus allowing approx two weeks etc for repairs? and there can be differences in whats covered between different countries?
Also the Prodrive performance pack is only recognised in the UK and something Subaru UK honour with the warranty, if you fitted this to an euro import your warranty would be invalidated.
Surely if the above are true these are important factors?

3 years warranty when registered with IM(subaru uk) Angela Gartside was who I dealt with 4 years ago, had no problems regarding warranty, got the rear shocks done about 3 weeks before the warranty ran out, all done by Ashburton in Devon, from 1st phone call to work being completed 5 days.
As for Prodrive being fitted it will invalidate your warranty, especially from Malta, Liaco recommend a 3000 service not 10000 as UK models get, so a email asking them if you can service to UK spec, seeing as your not in such dry and dusty conditons, deal with Antonio or Norbert.
