Would have been a mess if he ignored the missile status alert.

Ya used to be able to get radar jammers anyway, think they used to jam the radar twice giving an audible warning in the car then on the 3rd check would let the radar check the speed but obviously by this time youve slowed down-if it blocked it all together obviously they`d pull ya for having something that jams it.

Used to know someone that had one.

Something like this Target LE850 laser jammer or laser diffuser.

I think it's happened before in Wales, although the police officer on that occasion tried to clock the speed of the Tornado on purpose!

MISSILE LOCK!!!!

Great story, and I've heard the similar one about the Tornado in Wales, and also a Sea Harrier.

I thought sidewinders were infra-red heat seeking air-to-air missiles, rather than radar guided air-to-surface missiles though

Stolen from another forum, this is an urban legend

"Old tale this one and a fake. Sidewinder missiles are Air-to-Air only and missiles are never automatically launched. Even on new aircraft eg Typhoon the only automatic threat countering things are in the Defensive Aids Subsystem which activley jams radar or automatically releases chaff / flare dependent upon pilot selection...

Still a great story tho!"
