Use Autoglym Car wash with Conditioner or something like that - its only £5 and works really well...To get best results you gotta wash the car twice.

Having said that, isn't it more authentic to have a dirty scooby?!

Cheers!

PS: I think this is my 100th post!! Maybe not - next one!

If you can fford it (£200 for treatment) then get the car DiamondBrited.

The treatment lasts and is guaranteed for around 6 years. It resists salt, bird crap, tree sap etc etc etc and you dont have to polish your car again until the 6 years are up !!!!

Expensive for the treatment but then think of the savings over 6 years for polish and your time.

Here is a pic of my car about 20 months after a DiamondBrite treatment and the car had NEVER been polished since that time and thats oevr 2 winters with the car sitting outside in the weather(I have had a re-treatemnt of Diamondbrite since then tho but this is not needed) -

Look at the rear wing to see the deep deep shine

I use MER from halfords for about £8, silly name but it will be in blue bottles with mer in red across it.
It says the shine lasts upto 6 months with one polish or top up the shine by pouring a cap full into your car wash.

Dont go ANYWHERE near that DiamondBrite stuff - you drop off a Sexy Impreza and you get a Cavalier back!!!

Autoglm for me everytime - best value by miles

MER - watered down Brasso (honest)

That Cavalier looks better than a lot of Imprezas - particularly the new ones (but maybe not the P1 - IMO)

Looks arent everything - look in the mirror

Imprezas go around corners, the cavaliers go up into the trees

Dont get me wrong - I had a Cavalier in a party frock (Calibra) and it was a great car!! Its just that you SERIOUSLY cannot compare the two cars ...... or are you just a madman??

I STILL think it unfair that a polish changes your lovely Impreza into a ageing repmobile

This thread seems to be veering off-line somewhat!

Back to the original question, Turtle Wax Gloss Guard is your answer.

It was rated the highest by AutoExpress a while back. The container says you should apply some other stuff first, but AutoExpress didn't in their tests and nor do I. Excellent results, easy to apply, available in Halfords, not expensive at all, no white residue- wasn't that everything glen4?

Cavlier looks better than a MY01- I have never heard such sheeeeite!

I use Autoglym in the large "oil can" tin available in Halfords but I get it through the trade for £20 Lasts ages and is much more effective at "glossing" than standard plastic bottle red label Autoglym. The extra expence is worth it.

PS

Prefer old Cavaliar to current Vectra, but a Cavaliar better looking than a MY01/2 Impreza ? I think you need to take off those rose tinted Vauxhall spectacles

There is some polish you can buy that has some colour in it, it is very good... we have some black stuff but I don't use it much cause it doubles the job and is a bit messy...

... but there is something I did discover, it's a woman thing but please try it.....

go to Robert Dyas (?) whatever and buy some 'magic cloths' they are about £3.00 each, use them instead of a shamie to dry the car off when you've washed it, you'll probably need about 3 (as that's what I use) and I guarantee you will get a brilliant result without wax or polish, as these cloths pick up every bit of moisture... and don't leave streaks and shines the car up wonderfully ... honestly you will be very very pleased.

ehehe keep the thread on track lads

Just wanna make the comment about "going up trees". Try telling that to the Impreza Turbo owner who got a fright when he was going round a corner at speed and looked in the mirror to see me waiting to get by..... which I did and then left him slowly trying to catch me

Thats all I am gonna say really (Apart from final comment below) as this aint the thread for it and I cant be really arsed with this "my car is better than your car" arguments..... Thats why they make diff cars

Final thing - dont knock my car here when you haven't an idea what its like.... It has more power/handling etc than a lot of ppl will give it credit for......

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA I have yet to see a 80's has-been Cavalier come anywhere close to the performance icon of the 90's - what total absolute bollox dont care if the polish makes it more slippery through the air .................. its STILL a poxy Cavalier for gods sake!!!! This is REALLY funny

Are you sure that you didnt overtake a Nova with an air-scoop and think it an Impreza???? what you ACTUALLY beat was a Nova 995cc basic with half a ton of bodykit on!!!

I KNOW this to be a fact because for the price of an Impreza you can buy Glasgow and get change!!

Started off as a polish thread and ends with my Cavalier can beat an Impreza!!! This is what the BBS is all about - BRILLIANT!!!!

BTW I have just come back from the pub so my spelling might be cr4p!!

Keep it coming!!

Yet another "head up own ****" Scooby Owner who thinks they are untouchable

Shame its a handful of ppl that seem to have given the majority of Impreza owners this "label" when most of them seem ok.

I am leaving this thread now before it degrades into a stupid argument as the other party has no clue what he is on about.

Just to try and get it back on track, for normal polishes I used to use Autoglym followe by Extra Gloss Protection every 2nd polish and it kept my previous car good

Yet another "head up own ****" Scooby Owner who thinks they are untouchable

?????????-----------------------------------------------??????????

YEP!!!! I think when we are talking Cavaliers WE ARE!!!

We normally get the BMW M3 lads saying they are better than us

We sometimes get the EVO lads too

And the Skylines - even sometimes those sad Old Cossies

But this is the FIRST time I have seen a Cavalier owner saying he has left an Impreza Turbo for dead???? Sorry, its just REALLY FUNNY!!!! and I couldnt resist it!!

Can we start another thread so as not to ruin this one, my Glasgow friend???

Seriously your car looks really good with the polish - is it a 4x4 Cavalier or was that only an option on the 16V?

Pete

Depends if you have Deep Blue Mica or not. This colour is a complete pain in the bum and unless you dry the car properly you will get millions of water marks and it will look as dirty as you started.

When I had my car I first used a jetwasher to get all the loose dirt off and then washed the car with Autoglym Bodywork Shampoo. I would then properly dry the car with a chamoir leather and then add two coats of wax wizard merlin wax.

I would then drive the car once or it would rain and it would look as dirty as before I started so I began to wonder what was the point.

My new car is going to be silver so it will get jetwashed and washed with Autoglym bodywork shampoo but I am never going through all the drying and waxing hassle ever again.

On the subject of shiny cars, i have been given some TEFLOSEAL (ptfe) Acrylic paint treatment, alledgedly its the dogs danglies.

Before i use it, has anyone heard of it, or used it, is it any good?

Use Autoglym at the mo, pretty easy to buff up.

If you can't get WW then use Zymol. Costs a fortune but oh so lovely finish afterwards. Once you've used the base cleaner applying the wax takes just a few mins each month. Fab!
