Stupid version numbers mean nothing - unless you're talking about actual rally cars.
First Official UK STI was MY2002

Versions stopped in 2000 with 6 but if you want to carry it on, only JDM cars count, 2001 v7, 2002 v8, 2003 v9 2004 v10 etc etc etc

That may be, but most people on here will agree with the numbering in post #2, or at least recognise the model you are talking about.

(2001 Bugeye = STi7, 2003 Blobeye = STi8 etc. etc.)

Because the numbering was ONLY on JDM cars, a JDM 2003 car is somewhat different from a UK 2003 car, a JDM 2002 car is different to the UK 2002 car, so if you think that a MY02 UK car is an STI v7 then your wrong because its not the same as its japanese counter part, hence they stopped using the numbering

Tony your not GreaseMonkey is Disguise LOL

But do tottally agree with you They cant seam to get it consistantly right either, as it's STi number is fabricated by them and not a design number used by SUBARU.

Unfortunately it has become Common place for UK dealers etc to describe them as "STi8" "STi7" etc. which has passed onto the Market place. "if" buyers from dealerships are told by "Expert" salesmen that it is a STi8 model you can hardly blame them re-iterating the model number as STi8

IIRC IMHO

Despite being absolutely correct, you are fighting a losing battle.
