Default Beat my fuel consumption

Just a bit of fun. I was forced to drive my car to London and back as the wife's car is in for repair. Anyway I was pleasantly surprised at what I got.

Firstly the scenario. Traveled to London with 3 children in the back, Wife and myself in front. Small suitcase, weekend bag, rucksack, etc. I also have two amps and sub in the boot along with couple of in car gadgets.

My car is as per profile my53 sti 375+ bhp (recently remapped by Zen with better low end response ) but was on 359 on Powerstation map .

Route mainly motorways a bit of rain on the way back. Generally not booted but some spirited drives along the way and of course the last 5 - 10 miles in and out of London was mainly stop start but not very bad.

OK I got 310 miles then the petrol light came on. I reckon I could probably do another 25 miles (motorway) so that would be 335 miles. I also reckon had I not gone into London and not had a fully laden car I would have got maybe another 25+ miles.

SO I think quite reasonably I can get 350 miles from a 350+ bhp car on motorway runs.

The question is have you beaten this with a 350+ bhp car or modified car..... Yes fuel is up and I'm up for the protest but for now who's getting good fuel consumption (relatively speaking).

I got from Portsmouth to Hartlepool on a full tank in my MY03 STI Type UK. At which point the light was on and i probably was running on fumes :P

Different exhaust cat back, airfilter and dumpvalve..

According to google maps thats 321 miles..

I think i might have even used Aircon for a stint...

So what sort of MPG does that work out at?

Last month I went down to a winery to pick up some wine. Motorway, little country roads and an hour halt on the M25 for the Heathrow traffic.

Was averaging over 26mpg.

BTW - that's from 5.7 litres of V8 muscle, but no turbo.

once went to cambridge and back from scunny (approx 230-240 miles) on just over half a tank (probably nearer to 2/3 of a tank due to the upside down composition of the classicpetrol tank). this was doing mainly 50-60 on roadwork laden A1 and A14 with speed cameras every 30 seconds.

was a standard classic then, but still impressed.

Hoping I got the math right.

4.54lt per gallon
Car 55 Litres
55/4.54 = 12.11 gallons
355 miles/12.11 gallons = c29mpg!!!! Thats pretty good. Of course that won't happen often but nice to know. I also have AVCR fitted now so can switch to low boost map if motorway driving is called for.

see i must be doing something wrong

just got 219.4 miles to a full tank on my 99 uk turbo runing 320 bhp vf28, 55o's, fpr, fmic, induction kit, 3" mapped to 1.4 bar by bob

this was no motorway just to and from work etc, does that sound about right - have to say i was not spanking all the time the odd little play but thats about it

maybe i should use the avcr to my advantage and try it on the lower boost setting

Returning from Zen on Monday with a nearly finished new map, steady cruising most of the way around 70, but with odd spurts exploring its new found power. I managed 30.3!!! Absoluelty mint, way better than what it got on teh way down!

sounds about right. remember the original poster was referring to a long motorway run.

i usually get about 240-250 from 50-25 litres of town driving on a standardish 99 uk turbo. dont worry about it, you got 80-90bhp more than me, 30 miles minus per tank is ok

I have just today travelled from Charnock Richard services on the M6 back home to Cumbria, confirmed by my speedo and AA Autoroute as 98.6 miles. Filled her to the brim and poodled up the M6 off boost about 65-70mph. The last 20 miles was cross country, again mainly off boost, no traffice holdups/lights etc, but with lots of bends and hills. Parking outside my house showed the fuel gauge not even down to 3/4 full ie less than quarter of a tank. This is on a 420bhp UK STI mapped for 10% methanol, which needs more fuelling to compensate for the leaner fuel-air mix it produces. Not saying I could get 400miles to a tank or I would normally drive like that, but I reckon 356-360 miles would be easily achievable

I get 28 to the gallon out of my mildly tuned classic in my jouney to work and back. People say that Imprezas are expensive to run, but I just don't get it.
Get a diesel if MPG worries you... (Ooops, forgot. Government tax the hell out of deisel)... Get an LPG car, maybe then. Or a Prius. Actually, there is no other option...

I usually average around 160-190 miles per tank on the RB5 running Haltech ECU,TD0518g turbo, front mount etc etc.

Got the car mapped last week on the new TD05 Turbo and filled it up from empty (petrol light on) and put in £72.40 of super unleaded and got 162 miles ....but then again i had just got a new turbo fitted and antilag activated so not really a good time for measuring fuel consuption..

Best i've ever seen in my 340bhp 05sti is 30mpg taking it easy on the motorway, 65-70mph. If you take it a newage has a 60litre tank, then at 30mpg you could in theory do 396miles till empty. i regularly hit about 320miles before i fill mine. High tuned doesn't mean poor consumption when cruising imho. Good to see you guys with big power showing it can be done.
