£1.65 a gallon for 4* from small garages. Then; large franchised garages were dearer at about £1.80 a gallon. When fuel was sold by the gallon prices typically differed by 1p to 2p per gallon: since its been sold by the litre it differs by 4.5p to 9p per gallon.....

Seem to remember 4 star at about 4shillings and 6pence a gallon.
Thought it was so expensive when it went over the 5 shilling mark.
For those that can't ....5 shillings is 25 p.
And quad stamps as well !

i remember as a small boy seeing a deisel pump in a truckers yard set at £0.40 a litre, talking 17-18 years ago. would have made me 6-7 at the time.
i personally remember tesco 99 being around £0.79 a litre when i first passed my test in march 2006 and was filling up my scoob for the first time.

so never really paid for fuel , if you couldn't take it from peoples cars, you resorted to drive-offs

my old orion used to cost 30 quid to fill the tank when i started driving,,, when i was 17 and my mate got hes first car we would all chip in a few quid for a drive anywhere,,,,,, he used to spend 15 quid a week on fuel,,,,,, and we went everwhere at night

ps: my scoobie costs just over 50 quid to fill up,,,,, just like my cossie did and i still get 200 miles to a tank too
shows how even with the price of fuel a car with closed loop is better than a old turbo powered car !!!

I can remember about 37p a litre for 4 star, and also rember my cossie in the early 90's doing over 100 miles to a tenner, is about £28 now. I wish my wages had gone up by the same percentage, I would not be worried about the cost of fuel then.

i got 10 miles to a tenner,,,,, then i got it mapped and i could get 50 miles to a tenner,,,,, though i also once got 120 miles to a tank before
