I can remember my Dad complaining when it went to £1 a gallon. Think I was about 10 or 11 at the time. So around 1980.

£1.65 a gallon for 4* from small garages. Then; large franchised garages were dearer at about £1.80 a gallon. When fuel was sold by the gallon prices typically differed by 1p to 2p per gallon: since its been sold by the litre it differs by 4.5p to 9p per gallon.....

Seem to remember 4 star at about 4shillings and 6pence a gallon.
Thought it was so expensive when it went over the 5 shilling mark.
For those that can't ....5 shillings is 25 p.
And quad stamps as well !

£1.79 per Gallon, I used to have a Saturday job as a petrol pump attendant when I left school.

I remember filling both tanks in a Jag XJ and it came to £26

i remember as a small boy seeing a deisel pump in a truckers yard set at £0.40 a litre, talking 17-18 years ago. would have made me 6-7 at the time.

i personally remember tesco 99 being around £0.79 a litre when i first passed my test in march 2006 and was filling up my scoob for the first time.

You're just a lad! 3/6 a gallon in 1961 - 17.5p That's 3.85p/litre
I drove a Ford Popular 100E (1172cc side valve ) as an apprentice toolmaker at Fords in Dagenham.

I used to work in a garage when 4 star was about 40p/Gallon. And then there was a round of fuel increases and I was laughing that Petrol might one day get to £1/GALLON.

you forgot to add that you are a scouser

so never really paid for fuel , if you couldn't take it from peoples cars, you resorted to drive-offs

ps: my scoobie costs just over 50 quid to fill up,,,,, just like my cossie did and i still get 200 miles to a tank too

shows how even with the price of fuel a car with closed loop is better than a old turbo powered car !!!

I can remember about 37p a litre for 4 star, and also rember my cossie in the early 90's doing over 100 miles to a tenner, is about £28 now. I wish my wages had gone up by the same percentage, I would not be worried about the cost of fuel then.

Can we stick to either price per complete gallon, or if quoting per litre say so.

the 48p i used to pay was per gallon, so thats just over 10p per litre
