Default 5W 30

I was wondering if 5W 30 would be any good for our engines?

For your version, only general poodling about in the depths of winter!
5w/40 is the minimum you should consider and preferably 10w/40 or 10w/50

Not recommended at all, the manual states for extreme cold conditions and not to over rev the engine, ill let you make of that what you will, a 5w40 fully synth (depending on mileage and if the car is running/has been running fully synth otherwise a 10/40 semi synth)

Not the best of choices for a classic STi.

Newage, maybe if was a totally stock daily driver, but not a classic Sti.

Also it is no use in side valve lawnmowers.
