DEAD!! rang the garage straight away then stood on the m4 with the wife and my 10 year old lad in the rain for 2 hours waiting for a recovery truck, took it back to the garage and seems like the oil pump failed
they are going to sort it out and should have it back next weekend,

omg that sucks. I'm always so nervous when I get my hands on a new car. For some reason I always fear the worst for the first couple of weeks.
The last car I bought looked perfect when I got it (looked at it twice, once with a mate). On the way back we parked up and looked at it from a different angle. The front was a different colour to the back! Turned out that it had only been some light scuffing that required paint. The main dealer did the work, but did not get a perfect match. Was still p*ssed off though.
At least the garage you got yours from are saying they are going to do something about it.

Also make sure that whoever is repairing it does a proper job. You dont' want to be paying for it in the long run. Or Walk away from it and get your money back. There are plenty around at the moment and its a buyers market.
Make sure you pop along ot a meet some time. Next is on the 2nd July at the Toby M4 Jnt30 from 7.30.

omg
Unlucky....... but lucky it happened so soon, as no doubt you would have been fobbed off if it were a few weeks after the purchase.
Hope you get it sorted soon.
p.s While it's being rebuilt, consider an uprated cluch.

That happened already and you didn't consider getting your money back and looking elsewhere.
These things happen, but I'd see that as a omen so early on.....good luck anyway...

What causes a failure like that is the question I would ask, abuse, bad maintenance, mechanical failure, not being a scooby expert perhaps someone can enlighten me.

The older STi's (Ver 1 to 6?) generally tend to have "issues" as they run under very tight tolerances & don't seem to like the UK too much. I know as I owned one where the big end went resulting in a £3k rebuild

version 3 being generally thought of as one of the stronger engines. and sought after!
as for urdads comment. I dont agree, they sold it in good faith and accepted liability instantly where some would have just said hard luck you must have been driving it to hard etc. they accepted without hassle or a fight, collected the car, let the purchaser have free use of another car and are getting it sorted (its going to cost iro £2000 to sort it imho!!).
id buy a car on the back of that!

i am very happy with the way they reacted when i rang them, they where as surprised as me and didnt even try to fob me off, lee at the garage where i bought the car rang me straight back within minutes to say recovery was on its way. he says engine will be out monday and investigated, if its the oil pump then a new one fitted along with a crank, bearings etc, engine will still turn over so pistons should be ok but if not a new set of them to. they do have a spare sti engine in the workshop but tbh i would rather a rebuild as we know its all new and not likeley to happen again

am i being paranoid here??
but is it possible a standard wrx crank would go into my sti engine??? would it be a cheaper option for the garage if they had one lying about or is not possible to do. just hoping i dont get my car back with a standard wrx engine

managed to get to the garage today and the engine is out ,stripped down and its totally dead, pistons seized up big time as the oil pump failed,
they have a block built up out of an RA which they are going to use to build engine back up with, they are just waiting for a couple of parts, gaskets etc
would i be right in saying a RA block is as better than the standard sti item, stronger???

WRX RA has cast pistons, STI RA has forged. Make double sure your heads are v3 and they are using them in the rebuild. Make sure they are using forged pistons, like for like
