Which Classic Shape For Track?
Hey, This is my first post on here.. Can anyone advise me on which classic shape scoob to buy for a road going track car? My main concern is strongest gearbox and engine, i've just sold an evo 9 cos it kept breaking 6 speed gear boxes.. The car will do 6 ring trips a year and about 6 local track days.. Any help hugely appreciated!

Id go for one of the last Classics for a strong(er) engine: none have particularly strong gearboxes though. If you cant stretch to a New Age car then Id consider an early STI Type-RA for the rolling chassis and add a strong engine and six speed transmission when required (quite soon, probably).

Cheers for the response, the problem with the evo 6 speed is that the gears are thinner than the 5 speed, basically 6 gears put in the same casing as 5.. 5 speed boxes are pretty strong.. are scoob 5 speeds stronger than 6?
Sti type ra costly to run as track cars, how come? any weak spots i should be lookin for?

No real weak spots as such- apart from diffs if running full slicks, but compared with some other fun track stuff (poss without the same outright pace) they're heavy on brakes, tyres, fuel etc.

hi mate i had an evo fq320 which i sold and then got a 95 sti ra which has evolved over the last 2 1/2 years into a 400bhp track car, i have done 19 trackdays in it and i have to say its a fantastic tool.
the biggest problem with driving it is it runs out of gearing at 130ish.
mechanically its had one engine let go and has stripped 5th once, but that was the original 70000mile running gear. so not bad considering the life it has now.

STI 5/6 RA would be Ideal, get a v ltd for a longer 5th gear and your laughing.
The gearbox on the V5/6 is stronger than previous versions and is an extremely capable base as a track car.
IMO the classic will be the better base to start with, just look at TA, all the top Subaru competitors are running with the GC8 chassis...
