Look at Litchfields.
They have Forester STI'S.
Look after yer dogs no problem & are classless.
They could also tweak it at Powerstation (Conveneiently next door to Litchfields).
There are Foresters over 400 Brake knocking around.
Reckon you could do this for under £30,000.

Most people round here who move to the country and have a bit of cash tend to either drive round in mid 80s Volvo estates or well used Range Rovers of the same era.
The further into the country you live, your wealth is judged by how knackered your car is not how awesome it is.
Its why my Jeep never gets a wash and people think I'm loaded

I think you need to be clear that one of these 30 grand Uber Estates is going to cost a hell of a lot more than a 30 grand 3-series (for example) to run. If that's what you really want then they're all good cars. I'd be awfully tempted to get an old Volvo and a hot hatch instead.

You can't compare budget sports Impreza wagons to Audi's and Mercs.
Totally different thing, if you tune up a Subaru to match the german autobahn cruisers for performance you loose the reliablility of the Subaru.

I actually said UP TO £30,000 Grand.
You could do a lot worse than a Forester in Stealth Mode.
Have a look on the Foresters Site EUROPEAN SECTION.
Good stuff.

Strange, I have no reliability problems, yet my last 3 year old S500L Mercedes started playing up as soon as the warranty expired.

If however, you want an uber-wagon then yes a few(several) years old AMG Merc or Audi/BMW equivalent will give you a "similar" level of performance, with a bit more status (or "****" as Clarkson now calls it).
Obviously you won't get as new a car for your £30k with an uber-wagon so that brings its own set of problems naturally. It may only be a £30k car, but it will have servicing and petrol usage aspirations of a £70-80k car. It will never let you forget it believe me. You won't be able to tweak it as much either. Pick the right one though and you won't regret it.
Having done both options I'm happy with the Forester for now.I feel more involved with it, more like I'm driving it rather than it driving me.
Good luck.
Rich
ps. view my pics for the dog I recommend too.

Bearing in mind this is a Subaru forum I think the likely response would be that a Subaru is best. If you wanted to consider a Subaru then I would highly recommend you at least look at a decent spec'd Forester STI, just to do this forum justice. You could do a lot worse.

For £30k on the Audi used car pages you can get a 2003 RS6 auto (in green). There are only 2 under £30k. Undoubtably a nice car, but getting on a bit. That's the price you are going to pay if you go for an uber-wagon, but it will give you what you want.
For ref (for SqeekyM) this car has 450PS and is 2.4tons. Any Stage 2 recent-build Scooby will have similar performance due to the weight advantage. Even a Stage 1 will give it a run for it's money if braking is involved !!

For that sort of price, I'd go for a newish Forester over an old/ knackered/ thrashed Merc or Audi, anytime. Both these cars make subaru servicing costs look very cheap indeed.
A Forester would leave either for dead on a Wet/muddy/ icy country lane. Those BHP numbers mean nothing!
What sort of dog you getting?

FSTi or Legacy turbo, either would do you well providing performance and fun in one package, clearly you could get new for a lot less than your 30K or get a 2yo car and then spend a bit on mods as you will.
Of course the Audi or a Merc would both be nice cars, but the Audi's understeer even more than non DCCD subaru's and are dull to drive except for the starightline, and the Mercs aren't much better, how fun do you want to drive?

Personally just because I'm biast I'd say stick with Subaru or anything Japanese. You can't beat the reliablility of the Japanese motors...
Impreza Wagon
Forester
Legacy
Nissan Stagea RB25 with an R34 front end conversion
Honda Accord Wagon
Mitsubishi Legnum VR4
Toyota Estima
Toyota LandCruiser
Only a few of what I'd say but as I said above Japanese are probably the best for reliability at the minute, but that's just my opinion everyone has there own...
