keeping silicone usable ? ? ?

Nowt, really. You can slow it down by wrapping the nozzle end in clingfilm, but if you leave it long enough, it'll still go "off".

I tend to do as above, then leave a little sticking out INSIDE the clingfilm, so that you can grip it and pull out the "gone off" stuff leaving the nozzle free to use again.
It works if you pull slowly without twisting, and if the stuff isn't hard all ther way up the nozzle.

If that's the case, remove nozzle, check that the stuff in the tube is still usable, them pick out the silicone from the wide end of the nozzle with a small screwdriver and a bit of patience.

i usually have a large suply o nozels, then when you want to use it, simply swap the nozel over, and so on.
