you could route it behind the bumper inside the arch liner, will seperate from the engine and also hide it a little too

If you are handy with a set of tin snips you could try making something like this.

Somebody posted it on here a while back and i saved the picture, i havent tried to make it myself so i cant tell you what the fit will be like.

Default Air Intake

Like Ginge said get yourself a bespoke Typhoon kit that goes in to the wing and eliminates all the heat. Plus much easier to get a good air flow to it through your fog lamps.

Scoobyclinic created this bit of genius!! - 01246 590807

This is a totally bespoke kit!!!!
They dont make a Typhoon for the Classic, so Scoobyclinic modified a Typhoon kit for a NewAge and hey presto, one great sounding and great looking intake.

With this being a one-off piece anyway they will just modify it to fit around your existing pipework.
Nothings impossible.

Give em a ring, they'll tell you for definate.

Is it really worth it considering the air temp when it comes out the compressor?

yes, hotter air getting in the turbo is thinner,,,,, the more dense the better,,,, the compressor bit i see what your getting at but hot aint going in the turbo makes a bit of noticeable difference

cheets for info on the typhoon kit,, but ive relocated a airfilter on my old cossie and it cost around 20 quid in pipe work,,,, maybe less as its pollylock piping i used and that comes in 2 meter lengths,,,,,,,,, oh and now i get it free from work,, just may need the space behind there

APS do a kit for the classic.

I'm thinking about getting one for mine but have two reservations at the moment... first is that it has a plug for the MAF (which I don't use). Second is clearance with a fmic (which I have).

DSA stock them.

I'm thinking it may have to be a custom kit....

By all means isolate the air filter from the radiant heat from the engine side, yet if you have a cold air feed from the front of the car, this will direct the coolest air possible in the conditions, direct to your filter, and hence the densest charge possible.
Having an isolated air filter in the engine bay without cooling air coming in means that the air temp within that isolation is underbonnet ambient, therefore not strictly necessary to have an airbox.

Look at the top players in Subaru tuning and have a look at their engine bays.

I'm not saying don't have an airbox (I manufactured one for mine back in the early noughties on the 2.0 spec), but ensure a supply of cool air to the filter, which will be of greater benefit.

my thought was if i put a box around the induction kit it would help to keep the engine bay heat waay from it, and with that i was going to supply a cold air feed from the fog cover direct to the enclosed box

would this be the best way of keeping the temps down

stevie,
When i made mine i made a cardboard template (easy to cut and shape) of the box i wanted, then transferred that to carbonfibre lookalike plastic (i got mine from DRMotorsport but it's not on their site). It was a very good likeness to real carbon fibre and to the untrained eye, not easy to tell the difference. The good bit about using that material was that using a hairdryer, you could bend the plastic into any shape or curve you want.

I knocked this up using carbon fibre sheet and use the twin headlamp blank when on track/drag....

Its quite effective......

Sorry stevie it was over 5 years ago i did mine, so no templates or even box!

Seriously, nip up to the back of your local shopping centre and pick up some light cardboxes and make the shape yourself with scissors. Whenever you've got the shape of box you need, all you need to do is transfer that onto whatever material you want to make the box out of. It's much better to make mistakes on cardboard which costs nothing but time and get it right, than muck about with plastic or carbon fibre.

FWIW, here's a couple of pics of mine back then. Very similar to above. The lip at the front was deliberate as was the seal on it, so that the lip sealed against the bonnet and the air went between the headlamp and bonnet edge, to allow the air directly to air filter.

I used 4 or 6mm hose split along its' length. You can see the hose as the seal on the front edge of the box.
Give David Reid a phone ( DRMotorsports ) or E-mail. He might still be able to supply, or just Google for the material and see what comes up.

The carbon sheeting came from ebay.......the upright heat sheild part is 6mm thick and came from the floor of a Dodge Viper racecar!!!

Again my templates would be useless as the intake pipe has been modified and the k&n filter sits right behind the headlamp blank, car has no ABS and i have removed the carbon cannister.I also removed the rubber strip from the headlight bumper seal to allow airflow when using the original headlight....

The box edging is the trim from the plastic fairing from a motorbike......you can buy it from demon tweeks etc....

The box is held in place using Rivnuts and ali angle......wasn,t very difficult to construct just time consuming.....
