Default Coilovers vs shocks and uprated springs.

Hi

I'm looking to get my car lowered in the next month or so to give it a slightly more aggressive look and tidy up its handling even further.

My car is an MY06 JDM Sti and I'm a little confused over the best route to go.

I'm not looking to go super low or have a rid that is going to shake my teeth out.

I have been told by some people that if you get a set of coil overs fitted ( as long as you don't go for the harder track springs ) you actually get a smoother ride than if you went for say a set of Eibachs on the standard shocks.

I'm not going to be doing a whole lot of track to be honest but I do want a nice ride and improved handling for normal road every day use...

What are people experiences and recommendations?

Thanks

Vash

I'd be particularly interested in responses to the question posed by Vash. I'm in a similar boat at the moment (albeit with a classic) and am contemplating the Eibach Pro S coil-over kit.

So what are the advantages of coilovers and what ones are suitable for road use by those who want to retain a ride of similar quality to that provided by the OEM set up?

Interested in comments too. I went for the springs option, but have always wandered about coilovers.

I went from STI shocks with Tein S Tech springs to Cusco coilovers (on a soft setting) and on normal roads there isn't much difference.

Set up correctly coilovers should be as good if not better than 'normal' struts/springs.

I run Leda coilovers and spent a lot of time on getting the spings rates correct. A lot of the jap stuff is way to stiff for Uk roads.
