IMPORT OR NOT?

Can anyone tell me how to spot an imported model from a UK model by simply looking at it?
Is there a simple way of distinguishing the various models from a distance without having to dive into the history of the vehicle?
Reason being that the UK scoobies are cheap to insure compared to the JAP imports...and its £800-£1000 difference for me!

Hi
Depending on what you mean by import....
4 door Jap imports IFIAK all have a rear windscreen wiper, which is nice and easy to spot!
EU imports and UK models are near (if not) identical appearance wise - ask the owner for a peek at the 3year warranty
I'm sure there are other easy spots for a jap import, like Dubai sand and a dodgy looking rear foglight

If you look at the drivers side (offside)sunvisor it will have Jap writing on it on a WRX.
WRX often come over with big aftermarket exhaust systems and boost guages on them. Obviously UK cars have these items on them, especialy enthusiasts cars. But they are a good first visual pointer from a distance if the car is debadged.
Don't quote me on this but - I also think that the WRX silver is a different shade to that of UK spec cars. There may also be other colour differences I don't know about.
Hope this helps

There is no rear wiper of my 4 door WRX and is wasnt fitted as standard, is a type RA and they just werent fitted.
A good clue is the silver S U B A R U letters on the boot lid as these I think were only fitted by Subaru UK could have been removed or added though. The only real way is to check the VIN plate underneath the bonnet on the nearside suspension mount for the model code as parts are very and often interchangeable.
be careful
