Help melted piston ! ruined bore can it be bored 2.2cc
Hi ive just bought a 1999 Impreza uk v5 turbo wagon with a poorly engine,pulled the engine out and stripped it down to find number 2 piston has melted marking the bore,ive took it to my local machine shop and they have taken it to 93.0mm max from std 92.0 but i still have a slight mark on the bore !!!,which i thought means scrap case,until i saw turbo pistons for 2.2 cc engines impreza 22B?,my question is the 22B 2.2 engine case just a standard ej20 2.0 case bored out or is uprated/different ??,has anybody done this conversion ?,if so is it worth while ?

22B is a closed deck block with 96.90mm bores and 75mm crank,where your Uk '99 is a open deck block.
You can have the block re-linered back to standard or there are plenty of V5 blocks about which if not in perfect bore condition,can take a rebore to .25 or .50
You could have it bored to take 97.50mm forged stroker pistons,but you would also need stroker rods and a 2.5l crank(expensive but fun option).
You could try API Engines to see what they have or can advise you with.
