Question What size can I have the front numberplate on a 97 impreza sti?

As title, looked at this site that seems quite cheap Number Plates - Show Plates - Custom Plates - Bike Number Plates - Online Plate Builder

But unsure on sizes that i'm allowed.

Does anyone know where I could get the front one done as a sticker, as i'd like to stick it on the front bumper.

Many thanks

You are allowed the standard size, all others are illegal.

Even on Jap imports?

As in a lot only have space for square/rectangularish numberplates.

I'm only after the front as it didn't come with one when I bought the car yesterday.

Im pretty sure to get through an MOT you will need standard size plates, whether that be the square or rectangular shape, import or not.

However what you put on after it's MOT'd is your business

As usual on scoobynet 10 replies, all different, some contradictory, most just plain wrong. You can put smaller square plates on some imports but even then there's a specified minimum size.

The correct answer is here. Look under "Current Requirements" and it says (indirectly) what size they must be and under what circumstances you can have a smaller square front plate on an import and what size it must be.

Note that the size of the white or yellow rectangular backing plate isn't specified anywhere just the size of the letters and the spacing between them which obviously defines a minimum size to fit all the letters and spaces on.

Some words about sticky on ones at the bottom of "General Questions" as well.

I realise that it contradicts other answers here, but what I will say is correct. For an imported vehicle that doesnt have type approval, and where a standard UK registration plate will not fit in the apeture provided, you should use motorcycle sized characters and motorcycle spacing. An impreza qualifies from an import/type approvl perspective, but in order to be completely legal you will have to retain the original JDM registration plate surround/holder.

I used to have a small 'import' size plate, standard font and spacing, not rediculously small, approx 3/4 iirc....... was fine for over a year, then had two £30 fines in the space of a month, so put the standard size back on, one less thing to worry about!

A 3/4 sized plate isnt what Ive described though. That would be perfectly legal.
