Does anyone still grey import from Japan?
#1
2 or 3 years ago there were many people who imported cars direct from Japan. This seemed to stop when the import quotas changed and euro imports became popular, not to mention the introduction of the P1. I think the price of the Yen going up to 230 didn't help either.
The question is what's wrong with getting a 'full fat' 280BHP version from Japan these days? Is it insurance, SVA, paper work, the wait, front suretrac as a cost option?
The upside is that they do come with more power and a rear wiper
There are more choices as well: NB-R, STI-RA-C, type euro (yuch!)

In fact the problem was that JPY went from 230 per pound to 160ish so they became more expensive, especially relative to the European imports. Also all the scare stories about stolen cars didn't help. And the market in the UK became saturated with imports, there are tonnes or STI5 n 6's around. In my opinion people will start importing again soon as the jpy has weakened again to 190ish, you get more JPY for your pound and you get more car.
A MY01 RA would be a very cool bugeye to own....

Er, Chuck, it's now 189!!! and I've checked out the list prices. The STi is v-cheap but I can't do the maths to work out tax, shipping, SVA etc to get a final price.
The STI RA C has 2 versions, one has small steel wheels!!!!! I guess they think you'll be putting on your own stylee anyway.
