Crazy Engine noise please help!
AHHH!!!! I'm loving my luck at the moment. Ok as my Scoob is ****ed we've been using the mrs' Punto. So we drove 50 miles to meet someone today then an hour or so later left to come back and the car really struggled to go up a hill doing 60 on the motorway. Just as we get to the crest of the hill a loud grinding noise comes from the engine and the car vibrates like crazy. So after loads of "hmmm-ing" the traffic peep's escorted us off of the motorway. I struggled to pull away in 1st, it felt like i was in 3rd so i had to give it loads of rev's. but managed to get it into a B-road layby.
The car starts, so obviously has compression, there's no top end tapping so i doubt its a valve dropped.
My thoughts are its gearbox, clutch or flywheel bearings? This has only done 40k miles.
After a bit of research online i'm starting to lean towards the fact its the clutch. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. We're a young family with 2 ****ed cars outside and no money lol.
