Default NOT HAPPY!

My car has a CAT1 alarm system on it, all the locks where removed so to open the car you use the key fob. The key fob has been working fine but i have just gone to open the car and nothing! I cant even open the bonet to check if the battery is completly flat, there doesnt appear to be a way to get into the key fob to check the battery in that as well. Looks like im gonig to have to brake into my own car, any suggestions or past experiances of this let me know as im lost for ideas with it.

Removing the locks is not always a good idea. You reap what you sow!

Why remove all the locks? Is this 1993: have you seen a raft of Imprezas ith screwdrivered door handles like a MK3 Cavalier? Wasnt it obvious that youd have no way into the car if the alarm failed or you discharged the battery?

Imprezas have framless doors, so the easiest way in will be by pulling the glass off the door seal...

The key fob should open for the battery to be replaced, it should pry open somehow...

If stuck pop into a local garage and ask them....

PM "Wiley" on here.
He has Renault clio with a clifford alarm, smoothed doors etc.
Battery went dead on his motor couple of weeks ago and was in same situation as you. Not sure how he got in but he did managed to do it without breaking in.

Just get a metal coat hanger and squeeze it between the window and the seal and unlock the door, had to do it a couple of times.

The AA or the RAC would open it in about 10 seconds flat, if your a member of either give them a call.

Thanks for the help those that gave it! whats the point in your sarcy comments to the rest who does that help!? I never put the alarm system in and yes it is a stupid idea but it cannot be helped if it comes along with it. The RAC are coming to look at it later, not driven the car for around 3 days wondering if the alarm system has drained the battery completly or if there is some sort of current leak somewhere?

Yup, takes a bit of practice, but it can be done, I found openeing the back door to be easier

One advantage of frameless windows (my scoob had no locking rods or barrels..cheap de-lock )

Surely these replies are for a tread - I want to nick your car how do I break into it come on people...

I'm all for helping, but PMs would be a bit more subtle - honestly

Its nothing a theif wouldn't aready know. Classic shape Imprezas have been a doddle to get into from popping out the door handle , forcing the lock barrel or the coathanger. IN fact, the latter method is the LAST means of breaking in...as it takes too long.

Thinking theives don't know this already is a bit short sighted. Seeing that these things were getting nicked left right and center 14 years ago. Directly due to naive owners not using secondary forms of security....i.e CAT3 rated Disk-lock, which everyone should have regardless of electronic security.

It makes you think, when you see how easy it is, doesnt it? If you add a fused cigarette lighter socket under the bonnet, you can partially charge the battery through it if this happens again.

I had a guy from a garage come to my house to try the car and i must say the alarm system is impressive! He used a very good technique to access the inside locks but unfortunatly he was still unsuccessful to open it. I have an RAC driver coming tomorow now to try. the key fob has no light i might just replace the battery and see if that helps. Will the RAC be able to find out the cause of this either a leaked current, dodgy battery or a nakered key fob?

hmmm keyfob not lighting is the first thing I would address (unless yopu mean there is no light on the keyfob?)
Try to set the alarm off on the car by rocking it. If that goes off you know it has charge in there
