Default Changed plugs.. Wots this????

Right, Finally got round to changing my plugs this weekend on my 02 wrx sti prodrive, boy was it fiddly, Managed to come away with just 1 cut on my finger.
Driver side it did first, not too bad although i did drop the first bolt out holding the coilpack in so i had to jack the car up and slightly remove the undertray.
passenger side i opted to leave the battery in... boy was it fiddly, it only took about 1 1/2 hours but it felt like 2 days.

but what shocked me was 2 things.. 1. The plugs almost fell out(last changed by subaru dealer) there didnt seem to need any effort to undo, and 2. they were all red. What is this all about i have never seen red plugs before.. no its not rust..

I replaced like for like ngk bpr6b. have a look at the photos what do you think the red is??

The reason they almost fell out is because the last person to change them new what they were doing, it is very common for people to heavily overtighten spark plugs.

If you were to use a tourque wrench set to the correct figure of 11 Lbft. (16Nm) you would be shocked how little effort is required to seat them correctly.
