Red face Knocking suspension

My suspenson has just started to knock on the rear of my MY05 Sti (UK) and squeak on the front. Now after being on here for a while i've figured out this is nothing new, even on newer cars. My question is, has anyone gone back to Subaru to get this sorted out ? Obviously the problem I have is that the warranty ran out in March, but I would have to argue that in a 3 year old car the suspension should not need replacing especially as they are obviously aware of the fault. If it was a suspension rubber or alike I would have no beef but I'm looking at about £1000 to replace what I have !!! Not on at all !

Any opinion/experience welcome

When I had my 04 it started to knock (offside rear) around 4 months outside my 3 year warranty period, I spoke to Subaru (dealer contacted them) and they agreed to go 50/50 on the costs... still cost me £240 for one shocker though

Just had my06 rear shockers replaced today on warranty(which runs out march next year)had them on the front 3 months ago.
When the warranty runs out i will be replacing with coil overs for the same money as said crap items!!

Thanks for the comments guys

Yeah I thought the 50/50 thing would be the best I could hope for. Not sure I want to get just one or two done( would have to convince them that they all need replacing ) then have the same arguement 6 months down the line. Still, will give them a ring and see what I can get. Anything is better than nothing I suppose.

Would prefer some coilovers though

Try NASIOC there is a 47 page tread on this with some successes in reducing the problem

I bought my STi new and had the front struts replaced after 4k miles as the damper internal bushes were worn and both rears replaced at 10k then at 20k.

Its a type fault with a long history, Approach Subaru and ask them to cover full cost or replace them with better struts to avoid the same problem in the future.

Had this problem on my 03 STI. Had 2 sets of rear shocks replaced under warranty and finally changed them for after market items.

While faults like this can creep into cars what is unforgiveable is that Subaru seemed to carry on producing cars whith the same fault for several years and long after the fault was first identified. Not very good really.

I've just replaced my rears, car was sliding all over even on moderate bends - felt downright dangerous.

Only cost £250 fitted

Where did you get them done/what did you fit? £250 sounds a good price...

This is something I experienced on my previous (2003) STI. My current (2005) STI has been OK so far, but it's something I'm expecting to have to contend with sooner or later...

This sounds like the only proper option, replace them all coz you just know that it will happen again if you just get one replaced. Didn't get time today but will ring my local dealer tommorow in the first place to see if I can get any joy from them.

As someone else mentioned it truly amazing Subaru UK have not addressed this with a recall or alike.

If your profile is correct, you have a pre05 WRX, which did not have the knocking strut problem. Are these not a different strut?
