Default Auto/manual - ECU differences

Does anyone know whether the ECU fitted to a MY00 classic (the infamous 802) would be different for an automatic WRX/Turbo from the one for a manual car?

Early automatic Saloons (A, B & C-Series cars) used a 220PS 'Wagon engine, when manual transmission cars were rated at 240PS and 260PS. 'Wagons were rated at 240PS from September 1996 (MY97) for both manual and automatic. I presume that youre talking about a GF8, as to the best of my knowledge, automatic Saloons were discontinued when the MY97 D-Series was released. Whatever it is Id expect it to have an A8 ECU. Manual 240PS engines had an A7 ECU.

I hope that this helps, although your question isnt particularly clear.

Hi Simon,

No it wasn't too clear was it. OK well the first bit of news is that automatic saloons weren't discontinued when the MY97 D-series was released.

In Australia at least auto saloons were available up to the end of MY00. The car I am asking about is ostensibly the Aus equivalent of a MY00 UK Turbo 2000 and is badged as a WRX in Aus. It is as per the UK car with one or two minor spec differences and of course has auto transmission.

I know the 802 ECUs were used in the Aus manual MY00 cars via Ecutek's information and I have been led to believe the same ECU was used for the autos, but I wanted to check.

Hence my question.

Ahaaa. Id presumed JDM from 'WRX'. The information that I have given was for JDM 240PS automatic engine/drivelines.

Despite the Aus. WRX / European GT and UK Turbo all being very similar; Id guess that the automatic Saloons were mechanically similar to JDM automatic 'Wagons. Do you know what power they were rated at? Id guess 240PS...

It doesnt help at all, but all JDM automatics use a slightly different ECU to the equivalent manual transmissioned car.

Not sure on that specific ECU model, but most of the ECU's still have tables for both MT and AT (e.g. boost, idle speeds, CL/OL delay ... to name a few). I would be most concerned as to what the pinouts on the ECU connector were (i.e. same sensors on the same pins), but I don't know if anyone has that info lying around.

Thanks for the info and very sorry i wasn't clearer before. Not sure what the car is rated at power wise. I will try and find out.

I did think the ECUs would be different due to different sensors etc. but I am not sure.

What I am wondering is whether an 801 ECU will impove power over an 802 as it does for a manual MY00 UK car. Ecutek's info infers it will work for a manual on the Aus model hence my question about the auto.
