It is very easy for this type of issue to get totally out of proportion - Remember the days when the whole UK population wanted to shoot anything closely resembling a bull dog because of media hype. I'm sure dogs are biting just as many small children today but that subject is out of vogue.

I do think this is a serious issue and I hope the Government/courts apply the similar rules that they have put in place for those gits that have been stealing our mobile phones and keeping the Scandinavian ecconomies going for the last few years.

So, instead of responding with some story about your brother-in-laws mate who's been car jacked, lets here form all those genuine scooby owners who HAVE NOT been car jacked. Perhaps then we can all relax a little, keep a cool head and enjoy our motoring.

Who's first ? Go on, put your name against this or I'll look stupid

The trouble is the Government/Courts wont
International War on Terrorism (except IRA)
Increase in prison penaltys (Blunkett says just keep them in prison nights and weekends as too many people are being sent to prison)
Life inprisonment (Approx 8-10years)
Ban on legally held firearms (50% increase in gun crime in last 3 years)
I could go on and on but it just gets too depressing

When it DOESNT make the news THEN I will be REALLY worried!!

Until then I will carry-on, defensive driving is always wise, but its one of the things in life ............. if we **** ourselves at each Scum action then life would be sad indeed.

If you dont want to get noticed DONT drive a Scoobie Impreza Turbo!! CERTAINLY do NOT stick a louder than hell exhaust on!! OR a look at my BIG spoiler!!!! Just draws attention to yourself!!

You want cheering up? I'll do that did you know that apparently 70% of the worlds gatso population lives in the UK? Good? well they are breeding so fast their owners (the police) predict that they will double in nummbers in the next 5 years. That will make us feel really safe will it not. By the way i live in essex as well. Harlow in Essex the only town in England where it is not ok to widen the roads for cars because of all the grass and trees to be cut down but is ok to cut down same trees and dig up same green area's to widen the roads for our network of bus lanes (empty of course).

i own a wrx, have had the mmr jab, travel to work by train...sometimes when they run,..eat loads of burgers and coke, don't like excersise, am clinically obese, love 10 pints of lager a night and live as a farmer in zimbabwe.
other than that life's good.
Sreiously **** happens just be sensible, no sense in worrying about everything. On the scale of life's little glitches getting your car nicked is not huge.Bloody bloody annoying and scary but you survive, buy a mondeo, and get on with life.
altogether now ....Always look on the bright side of life doopyb doopyb doopyb doopyb doo

Err, sorry, but they usually don't try to enter your car by opening the engine compartiment. Maybe you could hit 'm with the remote controlled side mirror...

Pepper spray may be construed as an offensive weapon in UK (?)

I am not offensive with mine, but I would use it if I had to!

Spose it saves going away for beating someone senseless witha bat!

Good luck all you pepper fans!

Never been car jacked (touch wood). But if anyone did try, I guess they'll be getting a nasty surprise from me (not telling).

I have! (sorry) - Not a nice experience...didnt get car as I held on for dear life...silly really....if they had been armed I would be full of holes.

Now ALWAYS lock doors as SOON as I enter - I did not before - they locked on ignition...but I was jumped as I took off my steering wheel lock....they had waited their time the bastids......

Better to be aware then naive!

p.s you wont have time to use any form of defence....believe me it will come out of the blue....you have no chance. Just lock the doors, always look around as you get in and don't sell it!

No one has tried it whilst I've have my MY00. Though a couple of years ago a couple of guys tried it whilst I was driving my brothers R5 GTT.

I stopped at a zebra crossing to let some 'youth' cross, as he sauntered across, a mate of his run up to the drivers door from the rear of the car and tried to open it. (Zebra boy had stopped in front of me by now)

1) I had the doors locked.
2) I had a funny feeling something was up when the guy was crossing
3) Don't pi55 off a guy who's driving 180+ bhp Renualt 5.

Needless to say I now hold the record for accelerating from 0-60! (It's 4 feet).

It's also amazing how high the kids of today can jump when they want to.

Remember that's a one off in 'uuurrrrrmmm' years of driving mainly in London. Also long a you use a bit of common sense and if necessary a heavy right boot you won't have a problem.

Remember, let's be careful out there!!

I'll just add my name because as yet I havn't been car jacked! (and very glad)

Although when picking the car up from Basingstoke after having Clifford 500 and Tracker fitted (paranoid?!) the guys there were telling us about local news where someone had been car jacking in Basingstoke (after the alarm was fitted so he wasn't just after commission!)...There's also been incidents around Southampton of people I know being followed by some young guys, but luckly the police are taking it very seriously (as in ring 999 and quote this code if you see them again...).

Guess we all just have to be careful - and remember, make sure you leave enough room when in a traffic queue to swing out around the car in front if necessary!... but I'm sure you all know that

Anyway - I havn't!
