I can't be bothered with Shell anymore. I used to go to the one in Wafrord on the dome roundabout, but the staff are slow, the shop is locked at night and many pumps are empty. Tescos for me.

it is because users of high octane fuel run performance cars, so in the eyes of tree huggers we are 'the anti-christ'.
so while normal petrol for normal people gets a break, we obviously wealthy performance car owners (because we all seem to be scooped up into the same group now for road tax reasons) don't need a reduction in pump prices because we're exempt and don't need it.

or there's a strike on the v power sticker production line

or maybe there's a bit of wind somewhere in the atlantic that is stopping workers getting to the v power refinery

or maybe, just maybe, they're lowering the price of normal unleaded so they don't miss out on business going to supermarkets whereas they know full well we have to use v power and will continue to use it even if it costs £2 a litre because our cars will implode if we don't.

or some other rant a bit like this one

Don't seem to make a difference to me, I've run on both 95 and 97 and both run sweet, mind you I do 500 miles a week in my scooby so maybe that helps stop it imploding

Why, its a type uk? sti WRX prodrive, tweaked to run on uk fuel and I've done 43,000 miles so far engine still fine and sweet, maybe I'm just lucky or maybe the petrol companies are just ripping everyone else off

Have you had the car remapped for 95 octane fuel then? I suspect its not.

If you are still running the Prodrive map youd be wise to run 98 octane fuel.

Although some people say the map is quite conservative and should not det on 95, id still play it safe.

Im sure the sticker inside the fuel flap says 97 only on my 03 STi.

running your car on 95 ron will not cause your engine to implod.

the reason for using 97RON is that it has a higher flah point so it is less likely to cause knocking (pre det) under hard driving when the engine is very hot. on a standard engine or near standard pre det is unlikely and the engine will have knock sensors and retard the ignition if it detects this.

if its just running up and down the motorway you wont need 97RON

I always use V power but not because i live in fear of my engine imploding.
The real advantage to using 97RON is because it gives a slightly better throttle response (marginal and hardly noticeable but i can tell the difference) slightly better MPG and V power and other SUL fuels have additives to help keep the fuel system in a good clean condition. Thats why i use it.

I have used sainsburys 97 ron for a while now and have had no issues with this at all, I have also used the odd tank of 95 when I cannot get 97, but when I bought my car from a Subaru dealer they told me a UK car would be no problem on 95 not even a ppp car, only issue is the performance will not be as crisp, but the ecu can cope with it fine. I just choose to use 97 to ensure I get no knock so the ecu keeps performance at its best.

95 ron can kill a classic STi in just a few miles of hard driving. Although i agree the newage cars are not as sensitive.

however taken from the pdf document for the PPP : To obtain maximum benefit from the package, we recommend continued use of Super Unleaded
(97 RON) fuel.

Why have an impreza with PPP and drive around on 95 octane, tbh who in their right mind would drive a any turbo impreza on 95 octane lol, all imho of course

122.9 here, i asked them about it and they said they did, bollocks they have it was at least 1-2p a litre cheaper when ul was at this level the robbing bastages.

wtf petrolprices now say it's back up to 123.9.

lol, the imploding comment was tongue in cheek, but running an sti on 95 cannot be good surely?

as gc8 says you'll get a better running car and power must be well down? must be cutting back so much surely it's nearer to giving you a problem than a car running happier on higher RON?

sounds a bit of a false economy and you're possibly running a car with performance nearer to a WRX than an sti and what's the point in that

Looking at some of the prices being touted around here seems i must just be living in the wrong area.Never thought the East Midlands was particularly dear before but hey ho.

The V-Power will come down, it just doesn't get used enough so they'll wait till they need a new delivery to drop the price.
