Default Impressed with Tesco 99

I'm not looking for advice here as I know subaru's are fine to run on tesco 99, but I had never tried it up until last night.

Was in Perth, and annoyingly couldnt find a Shell garage that was still open, so I reluctantly went to Tesco. I wasnt sure what to expect really(the only other fuel its been run on is normal unleaded), but if anything I would say it ran even better than when its on V-power....very responsive, and smooth up through the revs. Only used a tankfull so far, but seems to be running great, so I might use it from now on.

Theres been loads of fuel threads on here, but thought i'd just post my opinion of Tesco 99.

Cheers, Alan

Exactly...that's the reason I'm probably going to start using it, because i'm a tight B*stard. Although saying that, I wouldnt have a Subaru if I was that miserable with money.

some one told me the tesco use octane booster or something along them lines, and shell is a much better fuel for ur car.

from my experience i thought that tesco fuel never lasted as much shell vpower

Fleetsbridge in Poole does and the one at Branksome. I Know the one in Dorchester doesn't.

Shell uses octane enhancers that quickly degrade. Tesco improve their octane rating by using 10% methanol. This doesnt degrade like the Shell product but you end up with a fuel with a lower calorific value. With the Tesco/Greenergy fuel, the trade-off comes with your ability to increase ignition advance (less powerful fuel but you may be able to use access more of the potential energy using more advance).

I certainly havent said that. The Greenergy fuel has a lower calorific value. that means that theres less energy per litre.

I can't say i find any difference between Tesco99 and V-power, but Bp ultimate makes the car sick.

Some organ doner friends with their crotch rockets said they find tesco99 better than most.

Thats a question better directed towards the mapper. Id say that it should be: both fues have a similar octane rating / resistance to knock, although their calorific values differ (so you may get less power from Tesco/Greenergy fuel).

didn't know tescos did 99 till last monday and been using it this week and found no problems yet.

Always filled up with V power, never used anything else. but tescos99 bening 116.9 ltr and v-power 122.9 to 129.9 i think tescos would be best as its cheaper

My old cav was mapped on Regular fuel (95Ron) and it never had any issues. It may make it pink? The only way is to try i suppose.

I think i'm right in saying that you'd have to drive like 50-70 miles before you'd notice a difference in fuel anyway. I suppose it depends on your map.

Doesn't running higher ron fuel make the engine timming advance?? Normal cars would correct this themselves, so again i supose it depends on your map

Fleetsbridge on all pumps

Branksome but only on the some (they do 97 as well)

Tower Park on all pumps

SUL at the mo at Tescos is £1.19 but they do the offer of 5p off a litre if you spend £50 and i think if you have a clubcard an extra 1p

I've run my STi's on both V-Power and Tesco 99 and can't say I've really noticed any difference between them. I tend to use Tesco 99 these days as their garage is nearer my house.
