Default Loosing interest in the bread :(

The last month or so I have been loosing interest in my Impreza Sport. I am just getting bored of it and I don't enjoy as much in driving it. Yes it handles like its literally on rails, so in that respect it good.

Two factors which might contribute to this is that I go to a Milton Keynes meet most sundays and have a good laugh in our little group of Subaru/Seat/Peugeot/Ford and we watch the youngsters turn up in their tuned Corsa's, saxo's and the likes plus a few Evos turn up and Skylines etc.. but what makes it a laugh is that the old bill turn up and start pulling some of these drivers for no tax, bald tyres, illegal number plates, window tints etc...

Its quite amusing to watch and see the bill actually working. At this point out group of 6 cars are all legal. And I just feel that as the classic impreza can be brought cheaply now-a-days by young teenagers it is giving the sensible Subaru owners a bad name. And especially as I am a) young and b) sensible
I just feel I am going to get pulled for something because of the car I drive. IS this wrong of me?

The other thing is maybe I have done a mod too many and spent too much money on her as I only have a Sport. I know it has been said that I have the tidiest sport around, so my spending has not all been in vain. I just feel I could of used that money to put towards insurance on a Impreza Turbo (and no I am not going to do an engine swap).

I just feel like selling up and getting something with more power, but a smaller car, hatch or something. I have been looking at PH classifieds and looking at CTR, Pug 205, Leons Cupra's, but more importantly something that will fir all 6ft4 1/2" of me.

I just want to hear your opinions. I can make up my own mind, so don't like I will be easily swayed.

When you say you are young....how young?
I am 26....but most people say I look about 21

I got a WRX Bug a few months back....I live 5 minutes from a big police station and I have no trouble.....infact, I have never seen a Scoob pulled round where I live!

However, when I lived in Chorlton, manchester....I saw a few scoobs pulled but it usually looked like insurance and tax issues!

I had a Clio RT....Blue and Pimped on 15s.....LOL! When I was younger, and I used to drive it round Chorlton and manchester like a complete loon....well, it wasn't going fast....just felt like I was!
I never had ANY trouble....never got pulled in 5 years of driving the clio(I was a student,is all I could afford)....before that I never got pulled in a black Citroen AX TGE (POWER!!!)

Now....one thing in common with the Clio, AX, Impreza and the Tipo I drove for a while aswell.......they all had full MOT, Tax and insurance!!!!

THEN.....for the two years after leaving Uni...up until getting my impreza a few months back....I had a Red 1.2 Punto 60s....with the Momo 15s off the Clio.....I got pulled twice in Chorlton in the first week of owning it.....it had been off the road with no MOT/Tax/Insurance until me n my dad got it from the Auctions. We HAD Mot'd it, and Taxed and it was Fully Comped...and I had ALL of the documents with me just incase they pulled me. had no trouble, they appologised and sent me on my way!!!

Then a few weeks later, in the stockport area, I was picking up my bro from a party and he blagged 3 of his mates a lift home aswell!
We got about half a mile up the road (5 lads in a red Punto on 15s) and there were the blues n twos!!!! Copper asked me if I'd had a drink...I hadn't....he didn't bother with the breatherliser. just asked me where I was going...told him i was taking these guys home....and he sent me on my way!

Basically, is doesn't matter what car you have....if you have dodgy details on their system.....they gonna pull you....

.....if you got a car full of heads and they ain't grannys......they gonna pull you....

.....if they see you come out of a car-park spin your wheels......they gonna pull you

but if you just keep your nose clean... they have no reason to waste their time!.....

I have been to young car meets in stockport and seen people get pulled....but I never got pulled cos i didn't act like an idiot!

Conclusion,

GET a WRX and stop worrying about being pulled.....if your car is all present and correct then you have nothing to worry about...just think of it as a friendly chat with another member of society!

I don't carewhat name the younsters are giving Scoobys....I am confident enough that I want my car and that I love it and that you can't buy faster or better for the price!
I mean, I drove a Punto 60s on 15's with slightly different coulored panels and bonnet and tweed interior whilst 24 and 25...thats alot moe potential embarassment but I didn't care....stuff what everyone else thinks....if you are happy...then its all good!!!

I am 23 and I am a sensible young man. Yes I would love a WRX/STi, but I just don't want to spend in excess of £1300 just to get a car with over 200bhp. I have not once had to pay over £930, not even for my first car and I don't want to start now!

I think I just need a change and I have not stopped thinking about Subaru's ever since that Top Gear episode when the Impreza won the JD survey award.

I have a clean license and 5 years ncb. My previous cars are, 1st car 1.2 Subaru Justy (what a beast), second car Mk3 Astra 1.6 8v and now my 2.0 Sport with 125 bhp (or 80 bhp at the wheels) so I guess a jump upto a car with over 200 ponies is going to cost a bit.

The fuzz will only pull you if your driving an impreza and your driving it like you stole it,i had the police waiting for me outside my house one saturday evening asking me where i had been, because a silver wrx had been seen driving of up to speeds of 100mph on normal 30 mph roads,my sister had to confirm to the fuzz id been at her house, crazy or what!!! they were just checking out silver wrx's in the area.

As said if you aint doing nothing wrong and your all legal, you dont have anything to worry about

GET A SCOOBY TURBO...THERE AINT NOTHING LIKE IT!!

this is sooo biased, but if you want something old skool, honestly from experience i can recommend a 205 gti. no offence about your clean sport darren, but a standard 205gti (1.6 or 1.9) will generally out handle and out pace a scoob sport. obviously not a turbo but a sport yes.

they are loads of fun to drive, puts a smile on my face, and it is worth spending £2,000-3,000 on a mint one. i paid £900 for mine and it does fill the void left my my unfortunate circumstance and selling the scoob. just a case of getting a good clean unabused example. remembering they are 15+ years old, but if you look after one like you have your sport darren, its a future appreciating classic mate.

pm me if you want any more info, glad to share experiences etc as ive had a sport like yours and the 205 currently.

Darren, see if you can arrange test drives in the cars that have taken your fancy, of course you will need a go in a quick scoob too...then make an informed decision, hopefully one you won't regret later

Trails, I think I need to have a few test drives as I love the sure footed-ness, safety of the Impreza, so giving that up maybe a big mistake if I chose to go down another route.

Andy, I was looking at 205's for a good week and then I said, they are getting on a bit and I doubt I could fit in one and be comfortable driving it. I am sure they are bags of fun to drive, I just don't they are for me.

Always said that you get more value for money in any hot hatch rather than a scooby sport, i'll bet it's the same insurance wise aswell. As with what the choccy man says, source a decent 205 Gti and your laughing. Best advice i ever got regarding Imprezas was from the missus. Was about to buy an Impreza sport when she pipes up, "if we can't afford the real thing, lets not bother", now she knows nothing about cars but she did that day.
Don't bother telling me that you can't go the WRX or STI route because of the price of tax, insurance, fuel, because i'll bet you've already spent a shedload chaving up your sport, and could have bought a WRX or STI to start with. What you need is a sensible woman to kick your ****, did me the world of good.

start saving up for a turbo version then.
all the money youve spent making that sport look the part could have covered the extra expenses of a turbo.

there are some good "hot hatch's" out there but Impreza's are a different league.

certainly wouldnt call darrens sport "chavved up", but see the general concensous with what your saying.

with your ncb and driving experience, i would hazard insurance wouldnt be an issue.

if i got insured on a uk classic with 2 non fault claims and only 1 year ncb for £1200, you certainly will get under £1000 easily.

Dude,

I was 19 when i got my 350bhp saff cossie and had that for 2 years and never got pulled by the old bill. Ive had my impreza now for 2.5 years and im 24 and still have never been pulled.

Moley sorts my insurance, and all of my mod are declared...

Go test drive the cars you like, get Gary to sort your insurance and youre golden.

Even if you dont buy a scoob, you'll always be welcome here

Do it get the turbo, driving my wrx is the best buzz ive even had. Shop about for insurance put your parents or other family members with good records as named drivers. I put myself on my sisters mondeo and it went down by £100 on a £600 policy put my wife on to and it went down another £35.

you do know direct line won't insure cars with mods don't you....even minor ones like a back-box. if you ever found you needed to claim and they wanted to argue their case, this is the sort of thing that would back up their argument
