Exhaust resonator?
Hi has any one fitted a straight through pipe to a new-age 2.5 sti? (2006) Its not the bit that replaces the cat just the last silencer thing! Was wondering if it will make it to noisy? I'm still running the standard sti back box as I like the look and was thinking it might be better to do this rather than replace the back box. Maybe a few more horses?

I have the TSL firestorm on my 06 sti,and it made 297 bhp on the rolling road with no other mods
Considering the de-res pipe for mine too, just a bit harder to get hold of for the hawk than the classic

Jesus! that's some pipe probably going to be to loud for the wife she works as a teacher at a primary school, I think it might upset the kids or make there ears and noses bleed!
Think I am going to go for the de-res pipe even if it does not give me any BHP. It will be cheaper than a new back box just to get that flat four sound back.

Agreed. I thought that Id posted the first reply on this thread last night. As theres no sign of it I said: replacing the resonated centre with a straight through pipe will give you an increase in noise but little else. Id leave it in place myself, especially if youre removing any catalytic converters too...

decatting will release some more noise on its own, so you may decide to keep the resonator if you had done this first.
replacing the resonated section with a non resonated pipe on its own will not interfere with the ECU.

Thanks for the advice I certainly do not want any booming, any thoughts on changing the second cat for a de-cat? don't really want to get a remap at the moment due to not having a very good bank balance! But would like to get a few mods. suppose im really looking for a little more noise and bhp, but some thing to work from and progress at a later stage.....

You get a better range of power at the top end as the turbo spools up quicker. Have you seen the resonated pipe on a MY06 Sti??? Its not like the old ones it is totally restrictive and looks like a snake swallowing a hot water bottle.
