M5 v UK Classic
Which is likely to be quickest?
An RB5 running 330/310 v MY98 M5 on straight roads from 2nd gear to 3 figures.
These sort of threads usually get an interesting response.

IMO and ive seen the performance of the previous M5 vs my own car, id say the M5 would (With a capable driver) comfortably beat the impreza.
They are hugely underated cars IMO.

lol....i wrote off my M5...though MY03 STI i have at the moment is at the same pace as my brothers M5 from start to all the way to the Top...fule consumption is the same also also..the only differnece is mines a 2L and his is a 5L...
but ye..you cant really compare the build the the comfort side of things...because the Japs just have not cought up in that area just yet...

I would have thought you are in M5 territory so it would probably edge it. Past 3 figures it would disappear. From a standing start to 3 figures my money would be on the Impreza to edge it.

like someone said they aren't too good at putting there power down from standstill especially the e60 with 507bhp...standing start i wud imagine scooby would have any m5 up to 60-80 sort of speed then the m5 would close in...to be honest it would be quite close between a standard sti and an e39 m5 as they have 400 bhp but are much heavier then a scoob...i wouldnt have thought there would be alot init at all...bearing in mind my car was quicker then a e92 m3 with 420 bhp

M5 of that year 231 bhp per tonne
330bhp classic 271 per tonne.
From a rolling 2nd gear start, I think the Impreza would edge it, more so on the 30-60 bit than the 60-100 bit. Overall I think it would depend more on who got their foot down first!

My E39 M5 was way quicker than my old 03 STI and getting it off the line wasn't really a concern as you could just granny it and then make up the ground in second gear.
330 bhp in a classic is a bit different than a 280 bhp newage but with the M5 it's all about the torque. 100 in 11.5. I think it would be a close one.

400bhp V8 is as fast as a 300bhp Turbo 4 pot. Possibly up to 60, but his clutch is going to last a lot longer than yours.

Close to 340bhp...running a power Engeneering Stage 2 Remap..(see my profile)
I do miss the M5...but everytime i get in my brother one i do miss it...but both the Scooby and the M5 are good in there own ways...
The Scooby has its advantages over the M5, likewise the M5 has over the Scooby...but i know for a fact that when my M5 aquaplaned on the M25 it was the build quality of the car that saves my a$$

My brothers M5 e39, recently fitted with a new Engine etc...produced 390bhp on the rollers...and i was very suppressed to find both the Scooby and the M5 been of equal Speed...
Trust me there was allot of checks on our last trip to the Ring....

Got to be very close the e39 M5 was 1795KG and 395Bhp ... so power to weight the scoob should edge it but nothing in it really. Off the line to 60 the scoob should win easily in the dry and thrash it in the wet.
M5s figures are
0-60 mph 5.30 s
0-100 mph 12.70 s
Standing ¼mile 14.10 s @ 106.00 mph
Standing km 24.20 s @ 203.00 km/h
Top speed 250 km/h (155 mph)
Fuel consumption 21.1/9.8/13.9 l/100km urban/extra-urban/overall
CO2 Emissions 336.0 g/km
Carfolio Calculated CO2 ? 333.60 g/km
Power-to-weight 219.5 bhp/ton
Before buying mine I nearly went for an M3 or M5 but in the end the lack of tuning ability killed it for me.
Scoob FTW

Seconded ----- numbers don't add up I'm afraid .... and no-ones even talking about a road with a bend in it !
This is for the M3 (2003)
0-60 mph 4.80 s
0-100 km/h 5.20 s
0-100 mph 11.50 s
Standing ¼mile 13.40 s @ 107.00 mph
Standing km 23.70 s @ 224.00 km/h
Top speed 257 km/h (160 mph)
Fuel consumption 17.8/8.4/11.9 l/100km urban/extra-urban/overall
CO2 Emissions 287.0 g/km
Carfolio Calculated CO2 ? 285.60 g/km
Power-to-weight 215.29 bhp/ton
and my standard Newage STI PPP outran one (on a private track blah blah blah) in the dry with hardly any bends.

Well it's good to see a difference in thoughts about my question.
For anyone that is interested, my RB5 put around 50m on the M5 in qestion from around 20mph to 3 figures.
Was the M5 driver trying?..... I think so.
