Default TRIPOD CAMERAS ON MOTORWAYS, WHAT ARE THEY

Driving down the M40 past Prodrive on saturday I noticed on a motorway bridge an old blue transit type van and set up on the bridge were 4 white cameras on tripods in each lane.

Done a check on the net but cant find any that look the same.

Has anyone else seen these and any idea what they are!

Speed camaras.
Congestion cameras.
Number plate recognition cameras.
Etc
Etc.

Pretty sure those are the number plate recognition cameras ... there were probably some cops further up the road waiting to pull over anyone that got flagged up.

Didn't see any police up the road, I did look out for them!

Just hope they were not speed cameras.

No not speed cams, most likely number plate recognition looking for untaxed / uninsured cars or stolen vehicles. There will be a few cop cars hidden away somewhere further on to pull the guilty parties.

Saw these on the M4 the other day, couldn't see a van though - but it could have been a bit back from the bridge they were on and I couldn't see it.

Next junction, two police bikes parked up waiting - so ANPR I assume.

They're ANPR cameras. There will usually be a marked or unmarked police car further along waiting to catch the offending car should one be identified.

On the M3 near the southampton/portsmouth end going towards sh/pm.
2 x cameras and if you look the van(s) is to the left(n/s) on the bridge behind the hedges, further along there is a slip road and I have seen 2 motorcycle cops sitting there...anpr I believe.
And always on a sunday...
I'm sure people from that area know where I mean..

Deffo ANPR - i use JCT 11 M40 every day heading north and they are normally there at the beginning of the month to catch the untaxed vehicles.
The Plod use an unmarked Silver Ford Focus and a Black Impreza on that stretch,so be aware.
