Not trying to worry you but, being that far over the limit may mean a court appearence

A friend got caught doing 60 in a 40, and had to go. It may well depend on the road (built up area etc)

Yup, your right 16mph-25mph over is 3 points + £45-100 fine, it does state that each case is looked at individually and takes into consideration time of day, road conditions etc.
taken from Speeding fines

TBH you're probably going to be lucky and get away with the same fine/points as someone caught doing 37 in a 30. The difference is you knew you were speeding because you don't bust the limit by that much unintentionally. Stop whinging and pretending there has been some great injustice done here. There hasn't.

...I wonder if you have actually met some of the numbskulls who set this limits. Most are utterly clueless and do it more for political mileage (like to annoy people so they get the bus) than any scientific reason that there needs to be a low limit

I don't have a problem with speed, but if you're going to break the limit then you need to be prepared to accept the punishment.

PePiPoo: Helping the motorist to get justice is your friend, however for that speed (camera or roadside pull?) you are within the guidelines to be offered a fixed penalty of £60/3 points, if you elect to go to court it will likely be about 4-5 points and about £400 fine (new fine guidelines just issued - and it depends on your take-home pay) plus costs if found guilty.
