Newbie WRX owner
Hi folks,
Bought my first Subaru this week - bog-standard '06 blue hawkeye WRX with 14,000 miles.
I'm pretty much delighted with how the car drives - the grip, handling and steering are in a completely different league to my old Octavia VRS. The extra forty-odd few horses don't 'alf come in handy too
Anyway, just thought I'd drop in and say 'hi'.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys
Made my first mod today. Horsed the god-awful double-din ('din' being the operative word here) head unit and replaced it with a very-nice-for-the-price JVC item. The JVC isn't 'owt special, but a tremendous improvement over the stock item. The USB port is dead handy too. Replacement speakers coming soon... (any recommendations?).
As for mechanical mods, my days of indulging in such shenanigans are well behind me. I'm just happy if I can run a nice car like this in standard form - keeping it running sweetly is the priority for me (boring, eh?). Besides, the Blubaru is going to be an every day motor (~18K pa), so I'll need to hold back the readies for fuel & servicing . Got 318 miles from 49 litres of V-Power, mind... (29.5mpg if me sums are correct). That's quite good, right?
Does this ring any bells with any of you Scooby gurus...
Had the car in for a service today and also had the Subaru mechanic check out a light 'chattering' from the engine bay. It's only really noticeable with the windows wound down and seems only to appear under load at around 1500-3000rpm. The mechanic mentioned something about an actuator or a possible boost leak (the fine running of the car would seem to rule out a boost leak). Anyway, he's going to run some diagnostics on it while the car is being driven the next time it's at the garage, but in the meantime I'd be interested if anyone's ever experienced or heard of similar symptoms... Cheers

A flying monkey pit's the more likely scenario!
Och no, apart from the aforementioned head unit and some new speakers I can't see me doing much with it. Perhaps the PPP if I still have the car in a couple years' time and fancy something new to freshen things up.
In the short term I might replace the dealer plates with some plain-Jane items, but I doubt whether that counts as a 'mod' around these here parts
