Hi all. I'm new on here and to subaru's. After owning ford's ever since I passed my test (don't hold it against me I'm not that bad). I'm looking to buy A new car. I've got fed up of keeping the RS in the garage and having a run about and forking out for two lot's of tax, insurance etc etc. Soooooo I'm thinking of getting an scooby, but not to sure on what to look out for when purchasing one. The model I'm lookin out buying is a 2000 uk turbo. is there any little common rust spot's to keep an eye out for (remember i'm coming from owning ford's lol) any electrical gremlins, recalls to subaru to watch out for and any transmission or engine niggels. Also is there any optional extra's to keep an eye out for. Cheers for any advice. Olso what mpg do they return and where's the best place for insurance. And one last question am I best going for this model or the bugeye model

places ive noticed rust on some is above the windscreen in the corners on the roof
just make sure you check the car out thoroughly, you can get decent uk models for not a lot now with reasonbly low mileage
A decent exhaust with full decat £400
HKS panel filter £35
remap £500ish and you will be loking at probably 260-270BHP plenty quick enough and not too bad on fuel if its your daily runner!

Theres so many differences between each model
Basically as far as I know - i'm sure ill be wrong:
93 WRX - 240bhp (All wrx models are imports - but have more power)
94 - 00 WRX - 260bhp
96 - 00ish UK models only about 215bhp I think
96ish - 00 STI 280 bhp - I think there slightly bigger disks than a wrx. Uprated pistons and rods, was going to write a bit more but this site looks quite a good way of finding out:
www.Subaru-Impreza.de - Special Editions of the Impreza Turbo worldwide - P1 - 22B - WR1 - Prodrive Style - Electra One - S201 - S202 - S203 - S204 - S205

A Classic Model from the year 2000 is the one to go for.
Get as few owners as possible - one owner is ideal.
Full Subaru Service History for 5 years and after that Specialist Servicing is what you want as a minimum.
Avoid anything that has been modified, with the exception of a BackBox.
Induction kits are very bad news, they destroy the MAF and then the engine.
Avoid Imports, there is no need to accept anything less than a genuine UK car these days.
Buy from an owner who is over 30 years old, you don't want one which has been owned by a kiddie wannabe rally driver - do you?
