Ever raced an E36 M3?

To start this is not another "i blew the doors off an M3" type thread.
I was talking to a chap on another forum and he was willing to give up his tax book to any man that could beat his standard non evo E36 M3 in a uk spec impreza.
Once i mentioned certain 22b's and P1's being "uk spec" he sort of crawled back into his hole. And also mentioning certain scoobynet members who would more than happily take his log book off him in 400+bhp UK impreza's. He again sort of shut up.
But have you ever raced an M3? If so how did you get on?

I struggled to pull away from the last M3. I have some boost issues tho
It wasn't a race, I just couldn't get him off my bumper!

I use to outpace the E46 M3's in my old Spec C
and no, even after 100(kmh of course
) they were not catching up ![Big Grin](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Normal 3ltr E36 M3's are easy meat to any slightly tuned impreza, the E36 Evo is a bit harder though (though I did wipe the smile off some young lads face when he thought he was up against a white wrx, oh big mistake
) looked absolutely shocked when i passed him, slightly quicker than he was going
(and yes he was trying very hard
)

I went up against an M3 once from some traffic lights and it was over from the start. Lovely car though and it may have been a closer match at higher speeds.
Now the new one... that is a different class

Aye, all sorted hopefully. Fitted a new actuator during rebuild, ended up needing a dawes device and the locking nut had worked itself loose. Boost was all over the shop, flat as a fart.

my neighbours M3 cab was a damn quick car once it was rolling, revs forever and just seems to pull and pull. very impressed to be honest.
wouldn't like to put up my money which would be quicker 0-100 or 1/4 mile personally. P1's are quick 0-60 but like all scoobs they lose any advantage after that.
think it would be close for a std uk V. std M3

I had a blob U.K. STI with a PPP & a remapped E36 at the same time, the Impreza was soooo much quicker to 60/100 etc. However, if you wanted to go any distance you always took the M3, not because it was quicker point to point (it wasn't) but you always felt it took less effort to drive. Interestingly when I bought my 1st Impreza the dealer I had it from gave the M3 another 3 months max in my ownership before I sold it, that was over 2 years ago. I still own it to this day but the Impreza only lasted about 6 months. I started to miss the rawness of the Impreza after about 18 months & have since bought another.

Isn't it funny how peoples views vary of the same car
I had an E36 M3 3.0 with a few little mods and it was a very, very quick car. Would leave a UK spec scoob standing with no problems if driven hard enough.
On another note,I test drove the later M3 Evo 3.2 after selling my 3.0 and it was so slow in comparison

I had an e36 evo cab, lovely car.
It was fast in comparison with other cars in the 1990's, but a sorted Impreza would leave it easily. Also as mentioned above they never were 321bhp (evo), that was crap to make it look 100bhp per tonne. They were running approx 280bhp

The thing that made me laugh was that he insisted he standard M3 was quicker than ANY UK impreza.
M3's are useless on a drag strip. I must find the video of me smoking one in my fiesta. Even most M3 drivers admit they are crap on a strip. They tend to rely on "my car will do 165mph" talk. No disrespect to M3 drivers as i do actually like M3's.

I annoyed a new M3 on the M4 last Saturday. I was overtaking a number of cars at legal speeds and he sped up behind. Dropped a few cogs and floored it and initially he struggled to keep up but then went past after a while. The older M3 are not as quick as I thought though.
I got a thumbs up, he then laughed as I put my flat cap on. It really annoys or makes people laugh. I am considering chewing straw next time.

my old MY 98 impreza uk turbo wasnt really modifed much
just full stainless race exhaust and with sports cat and hks mushroom filter
kept up with a E46 M3 up to 80 then he started to pull away slightly and at that speed i knew id slow down as dont like to break the law
as for E36 M3's the 321BHP EVO model is well over stated, most only ran about £280-290bhp on a rolling road. even my uk turbo MY00 that i have now with a panel filter nad backbox is quicker than one of those! have this guy who always wants to race me around our way and i dont even bother as his m3 is hanging!! probably got 200000 on the clock i expect!

I had the pleasure of coming up behind a non evo E36 M3 at a set of lights leading on to a dual carrigway stretch. Me and the MRS were laughing at something else, hadn`t even clocked what car was infornt etc, can only assume he thought we were laughing at him, he gave me "the bird" as the lights went green and sped off, I returned the gesture as i sailed past him easily and well below the national speed limit. ![Big Grin](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Ok so mine ain`t UK spec but it was bog standard at the time.

Had a blast against a E36 M3 Evo when I picked up my last Evo VI GSR(322bhp 290lb/ft). Infact i had just bought the car 5 mins before and was driving the car back home with my brother following in his MY94 WRX when I pulled next to a green E36 M3 Evo before we was going to enter a dual carrigeway.
I could see that the chap in the M3 was starring over, and as soon as the lights went green, I went for it, I had the intial pull on him due to 4wd, but upto certain speeds(70mph)
there was nothing in it, I think overall his front bumper was level with my back bumper, so I didnt exactly waste him.
We had a chat at the next set of lights and he was telling me that it was a E36 M3 Evo and it was around 320bhp standard???? So I guess I didnt do to bad, My brothers MY94 WRX was not that far behind either, maybe a car length behind the M3, which wasnt bad really to say it only had a decat exhaust system and a filter!!!!!!
Not to sure what a normal E36 M3 would be like, but I was impressed with the E36 M3 Evo.

did the title of this thread change?
i thought it was about the E46. whoops.
a guy i know had an e36 m3 and that was fairly fast, nothing special though. my neighbours e46 m3 had about 30bhp more (according to book figures?) but that was on a different planet performance wise.

Here's a vid of my old E36 M3 3.0 Saloon at Santa Pod:
YouTube - My BMW E36 M3 @ Santa Pod-Ultimate Street Car '06
13.6 @ 103mph - 1.2 second 60 foot. Not too shabby considering I didn't even launch it,just pulled off from normal revs
