That's what it's worth as a trade in especially with 38,000 miles it's way above average miles.

Would rather run it into the ground after paying nearly £30K 2 years ago.

TBH mate, £10k sounds about right as to what the trade are offering ATM.

I have a new car on order and all trade in prices on my 05 STI PPP with PFF7 Alloys + Spring kit started with a 9

You're better off doing what I've just done. Sell it yourself. I just got £12,000 for mine. OK, there are others up for sale for more, but if you price it sensibly the car will go.

Think you'd struggle to get over £13k for it though. They're just not selling.

BTW, the RS4 is an awsome car. Old man had one. You won't regret buying it. Just watch the oil levels.

Average asking price for cars with an average of 20,000 miles on is £15-16k. So I would say £14k for yours privately.

Owners need to stick to their guns and prices during what are unquestionably tough times for the performance car market or we will all have to give them away at silly prices like this.

LMAO, stick to your guns, that's a good one.
The guy wants to sell, not be paying advertising month after month for no calls.

OP - You're trading in so first thing is to forget about trade in price. Just tell dealer how much you have + the scoob. If he can do a deal, great, if not find another RS4.

Normally, you'll get more privately but these days scoobs (and many other cars) are plummeting in value as they're expensive to run, expensive to tax, expensive to fuel so although you may get £1k more by selling privately, you may have to wait a while as there are not many buyers about. Cars are worth what people are prepared to pay for them, NOT what people "think" they're worth (or worse still, those that think they "should" be worth).

Or wait a few months, the RS4 will lose more than the scoob in that time although the car will be older but that's your choice.

So, Obe wan, we meet again...

Frankly, I'm all valuationed out. And besides, it's very difficult to tell if this is a good deal until we know the details of the RS4. For all we know it could be very competitively priced and the dealer has no room left for manoeuvre with the trade in.

FWIW there does seem to be a huge gulf in prices at the moment. Dealers simply do not want the cars because they take an eternity to sell and gobble up a large chunk of working capital. Private sellers are, on the whole, still valuing their cars at pre-credit crunch prices and private buyers are thin on the ground and are very choosey.

Just some food for thought (or to stoke the flames ). Very soon people are going to start thinking about Christmas - I know we're finalising plans over the next few weeks. There will be even less cash sloshing around in the coming months so those people who think they will be able to sell their car privately may like to think again. I'm not trying to wind anyone up, just making the point that selling a car in the autumn is not that easy.

I was offered £13k p/x against another car recently by a well respected Subaru specialist. Mine's a March 07 registered STI spec.D with just over 10k miles, the service done, immaculate condition and a new set of rubber all round.

I really wanted a change, but I guess I'll be hanging on to it for a good while now.....

In fairness theres quite a difference between a 4yr old WRX and a 2yr old STI. In the other thread (where his valuations werent far short of the mark, despite others dummy spitting), people were hoping for over 40% on a 4yr old car: here the dealer is offering 30% on a 2yr old car and thats taking the ****. Did they really expect to sell after applying a hard market price to the trade in, but not applying it to the selling price of an equally difficult car?

I used to work in the motor trade (not any more thank goodness) and still have a lot of local contacts. I was speaking to one guy today who I know very well, he's run an independent dealership for over 20 years. He's never seen it so bad and reckons a lot of main dealers are flat on their back. A big concern is the trade-in offers made against the '58 cars coming out on Sept. 1st. A lot of trade-in offers have been made 8 or so weeks ago when the new cars were ordered. But p/x values have dropped so much over the last couple of months that the dealers will either lose money on the p/x or have to renege on the deal!
Its pretty bad. The market for used WRX/Sti etc is shrinking all the time and values will be in freefall. I saw a dealer with a nice low miles '06 Legacy Spec. B, was £11900 a few weeks back and now £9900 (and will probably drop on that) - so that's around 60% depreciation in 2 years. I predict a lot of dealers going bust in the new year and the 'heavy metal' being given away at auction.

All of this "price drop" nonsense just makes me feel glad that I did what I did. I bought an EU import. Saved £6k straight away...sure, I'll get less when I sell in a couple of years, but proportionally I'll be laughing compared to UK buyers. Will anyone care after warranty that it came from Cyprus? It's been well serviced by a local subaru specialist and will continue to be. Hell, I'd probably give it away...

Good luck with buying the RS4. They're awesome cars, look so "normal" but a total beast!

10k seems like a great deal mate! id got back and buy it! trust me you'd proberly get less else where, dealers rarely make any money on trade ins, it cost them money and prep work to get rid of them, why would they offer you private sale money , they dont want it , to them its just a piece of metal.

i doubt you would have bought the rs4 even if he offered you the money for yours? .. . .

alternatively pm me

the only reason the lad tryed to get a deal sorted before going out, was because you do get alot of test monkeys come in just wanting to drive them, or r8's , s3's etc.

EDIT

*just done a quick check myself, seems a tad on the low side* somtimes when the atual car is so cheaply priced they cant bump up the part ex price. trust me if i didnt have to deal with part exchanges id be so rich!

The RS4 is one awasome motor... I looked at a few before plumping for the STI, HUGELY overpriced 2nd hand (1 & 2year old) prices though.... and it's just as much a "specialist car" as the scooby... bloody main dealers... and if you go to swap one in 2 years later, you'll get shafted again.

Parkers guide for a 2006 RS4 is circa £31k?... you will not see one on a fore court for that!

ive beeen getting offers of between £13000-£15500 for my 56/07 sti with 14500 miles on the clock

however,it is a white type uk,and it is a minter

but its going nowhere for that money,as said above i would rather keep it for x amount of years, rack up the miles etc etc then take a massive hit on value

Dealers must be close to extinction on that basis! Heard a few people mention that t/ins are being screwed to the floor yet they're not budging on the price of their own cars Sure fire way to go out of business ...

Just on principle I wouldn't buy their £40k Audi if they only offer £10k for an 06 STi (if I could afford it of course!) ...

That's completely right, end of the day if you are desperate for the cash and don't mind losing a lot on it then go for it but if you have a mint condition car, few extras etc, then the private enthusiast buyer will recognise this and pay the extra.

I've never traded a car in at part/x and never will, I imagine when being told the part/x price is a similar feeling to getting bummed and I don't imagine I'd like getting bummed so thats why I always go private.

The problem is they wont want the scoob, its not as if they can put it onto the forecourt and retail it..They will have to just out it to the trade(who will want the car at below trade book price),but the trade dont want them either.
So unless the car is a bargain, they will just move onto the next guy that comes in.

Just try and sell it,and go in and buy with Audi with cash,at least you will have bargaining power then..

There seems to a few around for 12-13k in garages for sale, with less mileage..Autotrader is a good guide to what cars are actually going for.
