...what he said....
Its been said over and over and always causes arguments - but why start with a slower base car than you need to? Obviously if things happen over time, or you have to do an engine rebuild its a little different and makes more financial sense; but if you just want more power, just buy a more powerful standard car in the first place.

It's not unusual for the 300 to be putting out closer to 320 and with lower gearing and lighter weight, you're going to have to be looking at 340+ maybe.
My sons FQ 320 totally standard, came off the rollers with 347.
Not sure what the safe power limit is of the WRX internals but the FQ will handle 380+?

Ah, the old keeping up with the Jones's ![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Financially it would make more sense to get an STi. Not really because of the engine internals (which will cope with 350bhp just fine if the right supporting mods and 1st class mapping is applied), more because of the better gearbox, suspension and and brakes, which you'd need to change on the WRX.
I'm a hippocrite though, as I've spent the last 4 years modding a UK classic!

I've also got a modded WRX, but honestly, I wish I had started with an STI.

You would also need to get better handling and brakes on your car as well.

Some of this has been done, the major work like the turbo/injectors etc will be done the day before the map, I can let you know how I get on if you like.

going through this process currently, I bought a MY55 WRX PPP, modding as follows :- decat uppipe, prodrive sportscat downpipe, RCM catback, STi intercooler and scoop, green panel filter, VTA, VF35 turbo, STi pinks, walbro fuel pump and a BR remap. Excpected power somewhere around 320bhp.

My pals FQ330 cant keep up!!
![Wink](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)
I'm surprised a FQ330 struggles with it, though. It's the way each car delivers the power that makes a difference. When my car had 340 I had to wait to 3200-3300 before it woke up. My sons IX FQ320 pulled like a train from just 2500. So much more responsive on a motorway in 6th
Shame you're parting with it. It'll take the four of you but it's all the hardware that goes with it - toys, cleaning wipes etc - then there's the kids stuff!

Niiiiiice - I'll be £350 a month better off from Sept after paying off a £15K credit card bill so that will go towards spanking the bollocks off the scoob upgrade wise - will hoy it onto the VA Amex to get the airmiles though.
Lighter flywheel, racing cam, lightweight driveshaft, uprated turbo etc etc

that must have taken you a while to pay off ........... !
thing is, you dont have to go mad to start making a real difference. Just by upgrading the exhaust and uppipe removes most of the turbo lag which I found a real pain in the backside with the PPP fitted. I've managed to get some good deals on parts from my local dealer which has helped with the ££££'s

That's a nice car. If it had PFF7's it would be identical to mine!
