Nothing mate, they just like the dark enclosed space of a wing mirror. It's more annoying when their web spans the gap between my wing mirror and those on the wifes car and you end up walking straight through it in the mornings.

Wait until one the little *******s somehow gets into your car and insists on spining webs all over the place. If you don't use the car for a few days, it looks like something out of a Indiana Jones movie when you try climb in. I eventually found him nesting between the roof lining and the front windscreen and was remarkably difficult to remove from there. Not sure exactly what he thought he would catch, other than me

They seem to love making webs across the back of my spoiler recently - maybe its easier to catch the flies there as the airflow sucks them into the webs.
Not as strange as the one that nested just behind where the bumper joins the rear wheel arch. Looked at the car and noticed something odd, looked closer and there were about 100 tiny red spiders on the corner of the bumper, all abseiling down to the ground.

Managed to remove one the other day by sprinkling a very tiny bit of soil on the web. Unwitting spider thought dinner had landed and sprinted out resulting in a neat, tidy and humane dispatch technique. No jet spray, no chemicals and no boiling water. Sad but true !

At least the little bugger won't pose a threat to your life! Here in Queensland we've got loads of Redbacks, they are only small - about the size and shape of a Black Widow - but if they bite you you'll know about it.
If you're a healthy adult you'll be lucky to get away with 24hrs of extreme flu-like symptoms and vomitting. If you're a child, OAP or 'a bit under the weather' you'll be toast!
Mind you, it's a small price to pay....
