bedding in brakes

put foot on brake ...........
???
Normally they have a suggestion (check website) certain number of high speed/slow speed stops. Not sure it totally matters though but worth doing as it'll do no harm!

The longer you take to bed in your brakes the better.
Some people usually say 200 miles is enough 500 miles is more thn enough
How ever i done 1000 miles of gentel driving & breaking to bed mine in
It all ***** down to how long you can go with out thrashing your car really
What ever you do dont slam your breaks on with in your 1st 200 miles, you could end up warping your discs

Ferodo
I have Ferodo DS2500 and they recommend 5-10 stops at 70% of full braking to bed the pads in. I have done this and then just driven normally. You can't brake too heavily while the pads are not fully bedded because they are not so efficient.
Only trouble I had was while bedding in the new rears doing the stops from 70mph nearly had the fronts up in flames
Bedding in is going to depend on number of applications rather than mileage. As my commute is only 10 miles I do a lot of braking compared to motorway users.
Phildodd06, can't see why your discs would be more at risk during the first use of new pads?

If your bedding in on new discs you need to take your time as you will glaze them, if you dont you will start to get squeeky brakes
Also over heating new discs that havent been heat stressed on the car can warp them.
My friend has a 680bhp supra which he put a 8 pot conversion on, he went blasting round and braking hard with out hardly any miles on them, ended up warping his discs, cost him £300 to replace his allready new discs
Bedding in on old discs, you will need to bed in as the contact area will not be 100% true, you will have high and low spots on the disc surface, which the pad face will need to mate to, this can only be done again by beding in slowly

Sounds like the supra had a sticking caliper...

No the conversion kit was new and in good working order.
It was down to his harsh breaking, when he fitted his new discs, he listened to me and bedded them properly, he does all the harsh breaking now, but has no problem with warping his discs

Thanks for the comments guys, I'll take it easy for a while.
I've been told that redstuff are a lot better than they were, and are pretty good when cold now. I'll let you know after I get them fitted on Friday.

You might be back in a couple of weeks to say that they've worn out
As you haven't fitted them yet - there are far better options out there. If you want to stick with EBC, the YellowstuffR are far better and will outlast the reds many times over.
