I've been running one on mine for nearly 3 years and never had any problems.
The filter will pick up road grime quicker.
I can't see how it would pull hot air over the induction kit when your moving, as it's performing the same job as the main scoop, which is designed to direct air onto the intercooler

Heres a pic of the scoop but i was just worried about how open it is?so do you think this will be fine to swap straight over for the original?

Got twin mini scoops on mine and never had any problems with mine. Only time I've noticed water getting was when the ex was a little careless washing the car, never had any problems with rain at all.

Waste of bloody money they are, I had one fitted only for 2hrs. Got caught in a light rain shower, result destroyed my MAF.
My MAF was fitted with an Apexi air cone, the cone was soaked through.
Forgot to say a light rain shower in the Highlands is like non-stop for several days. Ive got one for sale in white if anybody wants one.

I have been thinking for a while that i wanted to open my front grills - ya know the 2 smaller scoop type grills on the bonnet? I was warned not to do this as it would **** up the MAF! Thing is tho, ive seen replacment ones on the net that have wire mesh fitted under them. Yea i know the mesh wont stop water getting in but why then do they sell them and quote that they get better airflow around the induction when there is the possablitly of them damaging the MAF
I took mine of and removed the back plates - then replaced the plates with tight wire mesh! After being told that it could damage the MAF i then took them of and put the plates back on!
My question is this, can i put the mesh back on or should i leave as is?
Sorry for hijacking the thread lol

Mine isn't open like that, Mine takes air in the same direction but then turns 90 degrees to the left which aims it at the induction kit and towards the inner wing. You can cut a sheet of metal to do the same and attach via the screws.
Mine has been used in very heavy rain including last years floods around tewkesbury, I spent 12 hours driving to birmingham and then to swindon in what can only be described as monsoon weather and the car never missed a beat.

Yer i was thinking of leaving the metal back plate on and cutting a hole in it on the left hand side just above the induction kit then that way the MAF on the induction pipe will still be coverd and the I kit will still receive plenty of cool air?

Ahh i see! So if i keep the mesh on but make up a directional scoop underneath to direct the incoming air under the filter, then all should be good. Would this be advisable for the other side, seeing that the battery is right under there?
Thanks

So if i left the old back plate on and cut a hole on the left hand side that should be fine?

This is the type I have.
ETSRacing - Mini Scoops www.etsracing.com
It puts the cold air right in front of the induction kit and stops and water getting to it.
I fitted a temperature probe to the filter and found a big drop in temperatures as soon as it was fitted. I also sectioned off that area into a boxed area, that helps also.
Used it for 2 years on my track car, never had any problems.
I'd say if you have an open type - get rid of it.
