Default Scooby owners helping scooby owners

This may seem a little strange too some, others may find it a good idea.

Im currently rebuilding my impreza which is a common feat among many scooby owners. Saving the money to do so is difficult as i found out today when i had 2 spend £600 of my impreza fund as my freezer and tumble dryer both packed up in 1 day apart.

This lead me to the idea of a scoobynet lottery type fund.

Where members can voluntarily plege £1 and get entered into the monthly lotto and the winners recieve the money to spend on their cars in the workplace of their choice.

NO money would exchange hands, the money would go direct to your chosen company who you want to perform the work.

The money would be capped at £5k to each person.

eg. if £20000 was pledged in one month 1st 4 names on lotto would have 5k.
Only members who pledge money would be eligiable.

Now i know there would be many questions about who would run it, who would hold the money. and i dont know.

assuming it could be set up all funds would be sent into a bank acc and run by a 3rd party, some accountant company who would dispence money to the companys.

I know there are many details that would need to be arranged and discussed.

But it was a thought i had as now its gonna take me many more months to afford the parts i need. Not saying i would win the lotto but u gotta be in it to win it.

Only other option would be for the sn members to vote on the winners of the money by people giving their reason why, whether their motor blew up, or looking to get some money into a track preped car, or even if a member wantin to buy a new car.

I realise this is gonna have good and bad points.

But please feel free to suggest other methods of how it could work.
and not be negative on how it may be pants.

If it worked, it could be you winning in the near future.

a good idea but make it simple i.e

£1 pound in and one winner

money goes straight to person no company as if like me i do all my own car work bar a few bits

but if you want it to happen then you'd have to make it viable i.e something in it for scoobynet so for every £1 in 90p would to prize fund 10p to runner of it (scooby net) but then there's probably gamebling licence that need paying for etc etc so probably 50p prize fund 50p running

nice idea tho

As is said, its not set in stone and would need some serious organisation.

If your not interested then thats fine. but lets try and keep it postive.

If enough people become interested im sure it could work

Yeh, thats a great idea, a percentage goes to SN, obvious running costs, accountants etc.

There are 85000 member on sn, im not sure how many are active but if 40000 are, then in one month if they do all pledge then its alot of money toward the costs.

That what i thought, a £1 is nothing to people, lose more a week in car down seat.

But collectively it would be a mass amount of money.

If enough people become interested il attempt to organise as much as poss, phoning the relivant people to get set up, and then hand control to sn, or if any people already know how it would become organised, help would be great

Why not add it into a form of membership instead so that even those that pay the £1 get some additional benefit so for example you pay £18 now for plus membership. Why not pay £30 for a year membership and £12 goes to a lottery on a weekly basis (but with say £20000 a week prize). If you pay £30 you also get additional benefits like more email space or whatever.

Why don't you all send me a cheque for £52......

It's a nightnmare, I reckon only a tiny fraction of the 82,000 members get involved on a regular basis, some of us "oldies" don't do ebay, paypal, ****...

You need accounts, taxation, licencing, and staff to process it all.

Sorry to put a downer on a basically fun idea.

Only possible "short-cut" might be charitable status, to give to a worthy cause,

Are you tax'd on winnings from lottery, etc? Just asking? If you sign up for a membership with benefits that has a lottery as another benefit doen't that use the same staff/resource/accounts?

i can see the benifits of that, but for an extra 12 pound, it wpuld make more sense to run the lotto monthly, so u av paid for a year for your name to be in the runnings.

You dont get taxed on the winnings from lottery.

it wudnt b so much of a lottery, rather a cash give away ( prize ) raffle system, every month.

the idea itself is great but i think the prize fund is a bit optimistic, when snet do their comps to win prizes (when was the last one now ) the entries where in the hundreds and it was free to enter if i recall , but if it can be done i'm in.

Get it all typed up what ya plans are and then put it to the board even if 5%do it 4000 members at £1 in the pot the winners will be buzzing do the draw once a month to get it all sorted and some lucky winner for £1-£5 got a chance of winning £4000

I think this is a very good idea and would be up for it. As a few folk have said, its gona take a lot os setting up and there are obviously gona be fees to pay to those involved making it happen.

I think the lottery idea would work the best (obviously only for those taking part) and that way is would reduce possible favouritism to those being nominated or voted to have the win.

Also I think that the idea to give the cash to a company where you can go to have any work done could work but I think it would be a better idea to let the winner spend the cash in various places and if he/she wanted to, do the work themselves.

So many options and a lot of sorting out to be done.

I'll watch this space.

I like the idea and think it could work but not on here. Look at what happened with the 'regular prize draws' and 'today's featured scooby'. Anything that needs updating on a regular basis seems to have died a death.

With regards to members on here, I wonder how many actually use this site on a regular basis?

Yep. I'd suggest running it from a seperate website and advertising it on forums like this, SIDC, etc.

Alternatively if you were serious about piggybacking it on a forum i'd approach a smaller site with more regular fan base and trialing it there.
