mcRae gathering record.

30 mile McRae convoy smashes world records
More than 1000 Subaru owners and thousands more fans have celebrated the life of Colin McRae this weekend.
A convoy, which at its peak stretched 30 miles with an estimated 1100 Subaru cars, left Colin’s home town of Lanark on Saturday morning, led by his father Jimmy McRae. Nine hours and 300 miles later, it arrived at Prodrive’s headquarters in Banbury, having been cheered along the way by thousands of fans who stood on every available motorway bridge on route.
“Literally every bridge had people waving and cheering us along with many hanging the Saltire from the railings.” said Grant Hendry, who led the McRae Gathering convoy. “It turned what was an already memorable event into a truly amazing and emotional occasion.”
The convoy re-gathered at Prodrive’s headquarters in Banbury on Sunday morning, before being led up the M40 by Colin McRae’s original 1996 Impreza rally car. In a fitting finale to the event, a sign almost half a mile long and made up of 1086 Subarus spelt out COLIN MCRAE and the Scottish Saltire in a new official Guinness World Record – smashing the previous record by more than 800 cars. The cars then broke a second Guinness World Record by creating the largest parade of cars as they left the Prodrive test track.
It is estimated that the event has raised nearly £40,000 for the McRae charities.
So did we break the record or was the press release pre-written?
I mean if you think about it all the cars came on together certainly less than 2 car lengths apart, we then all drove off together definately less than 2 car lengths apart.
Therefore as long as you ignore the few hours we were parked( or can come up with a valid excuse ) we definately broke the record.

The mosaic one is the officially recognised one we acheived but the second one for largest parade of single marque is unofficial and is based on the cars that were pootling along the M40 on the Saturday. We had someone from our team at one of the last bridges before Jct 12 of the M40 and he counted 1184 cars from mine to the official last car which was a Silver UK Turbo
Hope this helps clarify things and maybe we will get official status next time
Thanks

Don't do it!!
Grant, you all did such a fantastic job organising, hiccups and all made it such a memorable day.
I really understand those who would want a repeat, especially those who could not make it. You have always said it was a one off and that is how it should be, any attempt hold another, at least any time soon, will always pale by comparison.
Stick to your guns, it's the right thing

If the possibilty is there it will be explored but if it is an non starter from the off then we will settle for creating one World Record which i heavily doubt will ever be beaten.
If it was to be repeated then it would purely focus on the 2nd attempt and not involve any single North to South convoy or sychronised parking on a grand scale attempt or will it involve 1300 cars trying to squeeze through Jct 15 of the M40 at the same time.
Thanks

Well, weather it's in the guiness book of records or not, We all know that we broke both records.
If you (the mcRae gathering team)do decide to go for the official record, I'll be there.
RIP Colin.

The missus and I had a great day, would certainly be there if you guys decided to go after that second record (assuming you don't try and do it in Scotland - bit far from Sussex )
