Default Wrx-STi UK PPP what can i expect?

As above traded my Wrx in today

In for a 06 STi with PPP didn't bother with a test drive as i wasn't that fussed about selling my Wrx I did on my terms, It took nearly 3 hours, The little lad was hysterical tonight when the blue one was going in place of a black one he demanded that i bought it back! No can do I'm afraid, So out came his money box, "Well if you won't I will" Even at eight he ain't got that type of money. Here is the new one.

Looks nice mate, black hawks arn't that common IMO, a good thing.

Some good gains to be made via re-maps too because of the big bottom ends torque wise.

You've gone from a 2.0ltr WRX to a 320bhp 2.5ltr STi with bags of torque... so expect some serious fun

LOL .... .

Let me reword then

LOTS OF FUN !!!!

easy to drive (2.5ltr loads of torque) but plenty of shove when the turbo kicks in. I found the prodrive map dropped off at 5500 rpm where as now it's been ecutek'd in pull all the way to 7000ish and goes like stink (+bit better mpg and much smoother delivery across the whole rev range). I stongly recommend it!

Neither am I mate, this will blow you and your old WRX away... trust me you'l love it

Pants makes a good point, defo worth considering a custom map once you start tweaking it.

I didn't think you were taking the p1ss, I just don't know anyone else that would buy a car without driving it, So that makes me feel different, IYKWIM, It doesn't look like it should be tearing trees up! Any way will be here this time next week!

bought my car without driving it
got the dealer to do everything i said when he went out in it
clutch did slip no bad noises
best mate who is a mechanic cast his eyes over it and said was a steal as other cars the same were going for £800-£1000 more ta the time
that was before the market died tho!!!!
bearing in mind i had already owned a car exactly the same before so knew what to expect!

wife even went and picked it up for me as i was at work!!
so she drove it before me!

Get the alignment checked and wheels re-balanced ! I bet the dealer hasn't and it's the best and first mod you should do to be safe having fun. Go to a proper track specialist to do the settings and you will get so much more out of the car. Can't stress how important this is and missed by so many people.

Balancing is usually a bunged £10 where I am, but the Alignment is about £80.

My MY06 STi was all over the place before the alignment. Dealers don't normally have Hunter equipment to do it and some scoobs out there are probably still wonky from the factory. You won't know what your car can do until its set up right.

My previous WRX used to understeer like a b1tch on right turns, not surprising when on the alignment check it was ridiculously out from the other front wheel. It had supposedly been done at the dealers not a month before !!!

Agree with all the above posts.

I went from an 03 WRX to an 07reg'd spec.D and it really is like two different cars.

The STI is far quicker and if anything, makes the wrx feel a bit lethargic. Cornering is a different world too, the STI will do things my wrx could only dream of, it's so much more focused. The mpg is around the same too oddly. The 2.5 as said above is much more torquey than the 2.0 and mid range grunt is streets ahead.

The only downside for me was the firm and fidgity ride (I must be getting old, but was partially cured by new tyres and a good alignment) and the DBW throttle (maybe getting mapped in the future, so will get the throttle played with then).

Looks great in black, I was admiring a black hawk STI with silver wheels at the gathering....

Let us know how you find it...!!

Nige.

Very true on alignment... besides the remap my most effective "mods" have been alignment and changing the tyres. RE070s held the road well, but didn't half knack the old **** after a while, especially with Prodrive springs on

What to expect?

I recently came from a Black STI ...................awesome car throughout.
The only downfall with Black cars is the cleaning of it. You will soon be very knowledgeable and profficient in the art of car care but when they shine, they shine fantastic.

You will feel more confident with the handling and braking over the WRX and noticeable improvement in pace.
Your street cred will also rise somewhat.

Good move.

I got rid of my re070s bascially because they tramline to buggery and the car felt quite unsafe (read I lacked confidence lol) with them on. In the dry on a smooth bit of tarmac though they are fecking amazing!

I have to say i'm getting more excited about it all now after the good comments and the little lad has now started talking to me again! Thinking of having the stainless grill mod and window tints just so it doesn't look that sober and has a bit more about it!

It needs a front splitter too, really finishes off the front of a hawkeye which looks a bit odd... high possibly... without it.

HT Autos. They make them in plastic as opposed to fibre glass. Very good quality and easy to fit.
