Had a Ninja Sports cat pipe fitted recently. The car has been in the bodyshop for a while getting one or two touch ups.

Yesterday, the car was drivable, so I took it for a quick spin around the industrial yard that that the bodyshop is situated in.

On spool up, it sounds like an effing jet turbine under the bonnet...is this normal? (1997, sti wagon)


P.S. I used to own an MR2 Turbo that had a decat pipe and the turbo spooling in that was just a small whine, in comprison

 

Not sure if its normal, but I love the sound mine makes!

 

mines wel loud to mines a uk turbo, remember with an mr2 the turbo is behinde you so your not going to hear it as wel

 

mine was louder after a full de cat

 

The turbo of an MR2 Turbo may well be behind me, but its right next to the firewall...i.e..only a couple of feet from my ear...!!

Having said that...Its an amazing sound that my impreza makes now!!!!

 

My turbo started making a lot more whining noise at one point and it had a hairline crack on the exhaust side. Once the turbo heated up the crack would seal and the sound was normal. It could be a small hairline crack?

 

Hmm..interesting, The pipe work is brand new and there wasn't a problem with the Fujisubo system that makes up the rest of the system before fitment.
