Default Exhaust Pipe Size and Gaskets

Hi, just a quick question before I start the job.

Newage STI Blobeye btw

Currently I have.

Prodrive Sports Cat
Unknown 2nd Decat pipe
Standard Centre Section with silencer and resinator cut and welded out
Unknown Back box.

That was the set-up on the car when I got it.

I now have still...

Prodrive Sports Cat
Unknown 2nd Decat pipe
Blitz Nur-Spec R Centre Section (to fit)
Blitz Nur-Spec R Backbox (to fit)

The Blitz pipe is 3" long the whole way through, I know the Prodrive Sports Cat downpipe is a 3" to 2.5" into the 2nd Decat pipe but as standard does anyone know if that goes upto 3" otherwise obviously my Blitz isn't going to be fitting.

Also another question quickly is do I require a Oval gasket between each join? it appears there was one on this Blitz before but over the 3 years and removal from previous car it's fallen to pieces.

Kind Regards,

Andy.

Once I know i'll get on the job of fitting it or ordering up the 2nd decat section in 3"

Blitz isn't 3" all the way through

It's a megaphone design which tapers from 3" to 2.5 " to marry up to the existing Subaru/aftermarket rear centre (pipe before DP).

Been told now that the Prodrive Sports cat removes both Cats? so infact I'm prob running a 3 piece system.

I'll have to look at the Blitz again then? I measured it this morning and I swear blind that it was about 5-1/4" across the join part and the bore size hole inside was 3" on all parts.

MMmmmmm, confused now will have to have a look again.

Nope nope nope !

1. True STi Prodrive Sports cats removes the fulll fat cat that was in the DP but replaces it with another cat, only one that flows faster. This is a short fat pipe.

2. This connects to another short pipe which is a decatted rear centre pipe which used to hold the 2nd cat. This cat is removed in the PPP.

3. These are all OEM parts and retain the 2.5" system connections.

4. True Blitz NurSpec R's are designed to fit to the existing subaru cat back system i.e. 2.5".

Unless you have something non standard you don't have a problem

This is what I have on mine to replicate the PPP.

Sports cat and decat rear.

Just wondering if my centre section isn't a blitz one now?

Least now if it doesn't fit I only need to worry about getting a pipe from downpipe to got from 2.5" to 3" rather than get a whole new downpipe cat section.

Fingers crossed i'm wrong (it has been known) and your right and i've a 2.5" connection.

I take I'll still need exhaust gaskets regardless and that I can pick these from Halfrauds, or any exhaust fitting place?

To connect the Blitz parts you will need the correct gaskets which you can cross reference on the Blitz UK site.

Weird how your pipe is so shiney and the centre part is corroded on the connection. Might well be that its not the original connecting parts, I couldn't say. Worse case you can get a 3" to 2.5" centre made up by H&S, or they may even be able to modify that one.

I did spend a good 1 hour and 1/2 a tube of autoglym last night cleaning it up as well as I could

Good thinking, worse case i'll get a 3" to 2.5" centre section, I wanted to fit it today guessing won't be able to now as no means of getting the correct gaskets, thought they might of been universal

*EDIT

Blitz-UK is only 10 miles from me and has stock of all gaskets.

The Nur Spec-R is a 80mm bore though and whats listed Blitz UK: Products > Exhausts > Exhaust Gaskets meh? dunno which one, guess I'll take a drive there and say gasket please

Think it's this one though Blitz UK: Products > Exhausts > Exhaust Gaskets > 31501

Sounds right but you can always email them. Other thing to consider is that a H&S decat DP is the same cost nearly as a new centre pipe. Perhaps sell on the Sports cat and get a 3" DP Quids in and more horses

And i've been told I can pass MOT with the decat so thats in my mind now.

Anyway better pics now.

I thought this originally was the end that joined the backbox section due to the images on the Blitz site and where the hanger is but maybe its not.

Could this be the 2.5" pipe then it sort of shrinks down inside to 2.5" then re-expands to 3". Hard to describe.

Is 3" on the end, shrinks inside to 2.5" then goes back to 3" all within 6" of pipe length.

As you can see measuring across the end it's 3" although inside it shrinks to 2.5" but the end itself is 3"

Wierd ! yep springs to the rear centre connection. Maybe the seller had it chopped to take a 3" dp ? have you tried matching it up ?

MOT's have not been a problem so far on my 3" decat.

Haven't tried matching up but going to take exhaust off in a bit and see if they line at all, only way i'm going to know. Hopefully will be fine

Ah spot on

This will be going on tonight then having to fit it in my garage due to rain and I swear my garage is literally just about the size of the Scoob so the first start up is going to be with it inside an enclosed tunnel basically, it'll be like a Subwoofer in a Box

*P.S I have a semi-detached house and my current exhaust shakes the pictures above the fireplace

I'm going to find a brick through the window in the morning me thinks

Hahahaha - Dave Beck had a Nur Spec R with a decat (and antilag I think) - it used to pop so loudly it sounded like an large calibre rifle being fired! One of the loudest I've heard. Your neighbours may freak lol.

We have a door knocker and if I park the car infront of the door it vibrates the door enough to knock the door knocker.

When I say I don't know how loud it'll be its impossible to define if mine is loud or not at the moment, I think it's pretty loudish but it's not a known backbox, no-one knows what it is, but it might be quite tame or might be what people would call loud already.

Time will tell going to fit this around 6pm. Hopefully have it on by 6.30pm and out for a run while still light.

Was surprised start to finish...

35 minutes job done.

It's not actually as loud as I thought it would be, but it's a gorgeous sound really pleased.
