**** me thats a mess, their car was obviously travelleing at some rate of knots to cause that much damage, and in the current weather that the country is experiencing, it's obviously not the thing to be doing. even 4 wheel drive can get it all wrong sometimes!!!!!

OUCH!

That picture has just sent me out to check my tyres!

I know the legal limit is 1.6 mm but I never go less than 3mm and am beginning to think I'll revise that to 4mm.

Now some people will say that's daft and they can't afford it, but if you run a high performance car your life depends on maintaining good traction in all conditions.

So how do you get water away from under the tyre's footprint unless there's a decent channel for it to run in?

And remember the tyre depth markers are 1.6 mm deep so there are miniature dams all around the tyre too.

I remember when the Audi Quattro first made its appearance. When people had accidents in them they tended to be far more serious than those in 2 wheel driven Audis simply because of the extra grip so they were going at far higher speeds when they had their accident.

The message is clear: enjoy your car - wet or dry - but remember the laws of physics!

A crash like that on embankment road, he was clearly hooning it, the weather down here hasn't been that bad.

Shame for it to happen though.

It's one of the main roads into plymouth and is fairly straight.

I sincerely hope it wasn't down to speed, but I have to agree the weather wasnt that bad and if you are only travelling at 40mph I just cant see how someone would crash on this road?

My thoughts are with the family RIP.

Well it's such a strange place to happen, as you know that area is crawling with police as boy racers steam up there all the time, and for that car to get in such a state i dunno.....

Something is certainly amiss, as ive said he must have been going for it.

Having been a fool myself, these end results are purely down to speed.
If he was doing 60 in a 60 mor 50 in a 50 that isnt the result of hitting a slippy patch and spinning off, that looks like 85ish spinning out.

RIP but,as i said, been there done that, speed does kill, not the weather,in most cases.
