But when i had this with the skyline i just filled the gearbox up with Redline Heavy shock proof oil.. Which masks the problem, but dosent fix it.. If its quite bad then it wont really do much.
Quoted under £500 squid to fix.. But am unsure of scooby prices as im a scoob newb?! Trying to do as much research as i can

Mine used to do the same,I lived with it until it started to do it during a "Normal" gear change then I got it repaired. They stripped the box and replaced 3rd and 4th synchro along with a new selector fork.Total cost was £666.36p.

Use your left foot !
Or get a lighter gear ***

Seriously though, something doesn't sound right, changing the oil would be a good move, would also be good so see if there's any metal in it

For the record, I had a similar problem on my old my99 UK turbo. Started whining in 3rd and 5th particularly on motorway driving at around 70mph. Was terrible when warm but not really crunching. I tried the gearbox oil change as I got some 75w-90 Castrol Syntrax for a very good price from Opie Oils. Two weeks later down Tesco, I was checking my tyre pressures and the car woulcnt engage 1st or reverse. After a bit of clunking it went it, but was too late - gearbox has gone 'boom'. It drove home alright at a low speed (it was about 6.30am saturday morning) and got in touch with A.P.I. who ended up doing me a full reconditioned rebuild.
My problem was general wear and tear, the gearbox was the original and had covered 135,000 miles, so not a bad innings. Cost me just under £900 for the box and I had another Subaru specialists nearer to me fit it, strip the old box etc.
You might simply just have one/two gears going 'bye-bye' as your car is obviously a lot newer. My advice is to try a gearbox oil change with some good stuff like Castrol and see if it makes a difference. If not, it may be time to look into getting a specilaists to strip it down and find out the problem.
I certainly hope your not considering selling the car in this climate, as you will loose a hell of a lot more than what a good repair by a respectable specilaists would cost on the box.

All fixed and better...

Hope the above helps.

First you change gears without using the clutch (see your other post), then you say you get a crunching noise and the problem is fixed by changing the oil.
Hopefully it doesn't come back but I would doubt![Ponder2](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/ponder2.gif)
Expect a hefty bill for 3rd and 4th gear synchros change.
