HPi milage discrepancy
I am picking up my new bugbye WRX this week so did a check on autocheck.
It come back with a milage discrepancy.
It was registered in Dec 2000. The milage was as follows
6/4/01 6,000 miles
27/4/01 17,000 miles
13/8/02 14,000 miles
I find it strange it did 17,000 miles in four months and 11,000 miles between the 6th and 27th of April 2001.
Do you think the 27/4/01 milage was a mistake and should of been 7,000?

more than likely a mistake i reckon.... I bought a car once done 78k was a 98R MR2 and current owner had it since it was a year old.. Anyway i did a check and it came back as a mileage discrepancy... When investigated it was found the first owner wrote 120,000 as the mileage on the V5 when they sold it instead of the 12,000 it had actually done....

It might be a mistake or it might not. You need to find out. The mistake might mean 41,000. Or it could have done a lot of miles then clocked.
What is the mileage now?
It often amazes me that people do hpi checks then ignore the results thinking it's a "genuine mistake". Unless it's obvious that it's a mistake (an A6 I had went from 51,000 to 510,000 in ONE day! clearly a typo when exchanging V5 - the 51,000 was from MOT on day of sale) then get it checked out (does it have all the mot's, service history etc.).

It's on 80,000 now. There were other milages after and it was a steady climb although probably different owers.
Apart from looking for the general signs of wear and tear on a high miler, I'm not sure what else to look for.

What was the mileage after the 14,000 one?
What else to look for? A: one without a mileage discrepancy.
Don't talk yourself into buying it until you are pretty certain that it's not clocked. I would think it easily possible that 14k should read 41k which would mean the car has done 100k+. You can also use it as a bargaining chip, unless owner can prove it (i.e. old mots, service records etc.) then assume it's done the higher mileage and get a price that reflects that.

If you want to buy it then you'll be looking for reasons to buy rather than not hence the attitude toward overlooking the mileage It's actually better to look for reasons to not buy something that to buy it (if that makes any sense!).

might be a simple answer but why has the mileage been recorded somewhere so soon after the 6k recording, has it had warranty work done or changed hands. Is there any info in the service book. first thought is imho that its a mistake because it would be pretty hard to do 11k miles in 3 weeks not to mention expensive.

The car is 200 miles away so I need to phone the seller to see about the service book or old MOT's before going to pick it up.
The car is a mica red 2000 bugeye (cheap tax), full MOT, years TAX, just serviced, new timing belt and clutch. Totally standard.
I'm paying £3750 which I think is a good deal. If anybody knows of any better deals please provide links.
