FU**ING POLICE
i only went out for a little ride in my car last night got stopped by the police.they told me the exhaust was too loud and they made me change my number plates and get it stamped by an MOT station. You would think they had better things to do like catch real criminals. What a waste of tax payers

As above mate. If it wasn't then fair enough really...
If your scoob gets nicked then the Motorway ANPR cameras wont ping it and you can pretty much guarantee it will get onto the Mway network if stolen.
It's not always about speed cams dude...

From: Tellins, Home of Super Leagues finest, and where a "split" is not all it seems.
I always find the exhaust business subjective and unsubstantiable... No excuse for crappy plates though... Should be a £30 fine with 1 week to resolve and a three strikes and car crushed policy IMO...

BTW where do you draw the line with exhaust noise? 747 take off volume? Jackhammer? The level has been decided, if you don't like it protest to your MP. Otherwise, keep inside the law! IMHO

There are other criminals other than pedos and pervs...........like carjackers, burglars and robbers. All who like to use high performance stolen cars with dodgy plates to get around.
The no plate thing maybe ****, but I find if you speak to the plod with respect you are often allowed to drive away with a word of advice rather than a fine.

already is one for private plates. Space it illegally or have a dodgy plate they can remove the reg from you after 3 offences.
TBH small/illegal plate is asking for a pull. A louder but not anti social exhaust shouldn't be worth stopping you for but a plate is and since they've already pulled you then the exhaust is easy to add to the list.

speak to them with respect? just goes to show they like to be in control if you ask me, if you dont do what they say, your nicked, why a**elick em, its the crime that should be taken into account, not the fact that you show them their in control, just think how many criminals are getting off by a**elicking!

Yep, not only is it an actual crime but it's also a crime against Scoobies. These are nice cars designed to be tastefully modified, not Barry'd up with crappy number plates (with the No Fear logo on them, honestly ). It's not a Vauxhall Corsa you know. You should be sent down for three years for that alone
Same goes for the exhaust, while I'm not massively opposed to fitting a nice system to a Scoob it's all about subtlety. Fit a drainpipe sized system and drive round town at high revs then you'll get pulled and make a bad name for the rest of us Scoob owners. Go for something a bit more subtle and keep the revs low in built up areas and the plod won't even notice you passing.

If you see respect as ar$elicking then you may have a problem!
Treating as an equal, not talkng down or being cocky for example. Being honest, the usual stuff imho
Never had a cop give me grief yet. However, if i did and it was their 'fault' or attitude responsibe then i would have something to say about it.
Circumstances need to be taken into account on both sides and common sense applied.

What IS the law for exhaust volumes though?
I thought NUR Spec R's were loud, but the guy at the MOT station told me that "excessive" volume is in the tester's opinion rather than being measured by equipment - is this true?
If so then surely the police don't have a leg to stand on if the car passed the MOT test with this exhaust fitted?
Plates I do agree on though - leave the daft lettering etc to the lads with Saxos and Novas...

the limit is normally around 80db, you cant have a progressive exhaust and it must be mot-able and road legal, you could always have a bung to quieten it down whilst on the road and remove it for track days etc

I was amused that she said that the fact that I hadn't driven off at speed probably meant she was wasting my time but that she had to follow procedure. She was very polite and apologetic, and I didn't mind because she was actually quite fit .
I've also had encounters with male police in the past, generally when I'd started driving - I had 3 producers even though I'd done nothing wrong, it was their way of saying "we're here - we're watching you" and it was nothing more than intimidation which used to really pi** me off.
However, one evening my alternator packed up and my lights weren't working; I got pulled by the police and asked to stop the engine, to which I obviously replied - "no, it won't start again if I do!". When I explained the situation, the guys in the panda car gave me a brief telling off about driving the car in that state, but then gave me an escort all the way home (about 10 mins down the road) to ensure I didn't break down - in short, I'm saying this, there are some cops in it for the power, but there are plenty of nice ones too.

So typically English, commit a motoring offence and you are guaranteed to face the abslolute full weight of the law, yet burgle a few houses or knife a few people and with a good legal aid solicitor paid for by us mugs, you could get a couple of hours community service.

Seconded. I was pulled in Twickenham last year because, and I quote, "a lot of Imprezas are stolen". It was actually quite funny, the WPC who stopped me in a riot van was on her own, was asked by her control to check the VIN plate, and then she had to ask me where it was in the engine bay when I opened the bonnet .
